Darrell, I don't think you made a mistake by posting this thread elsewhere. IMO, the more people we have searching, the more likely we are to find these things early. I mean hell, millions of people read AnandTech every day and I posted the link to the other thread in my article as well. Maybe it's just the type of reader here vs elsewhere. Anyways, it doesn't matter anymore.

The other pluses are that I can update the first post when there's significant new info and there are some smart cookies that read AnandTech that may be able to assist us in the hunt.

I think that's a great idea. I think Darrell has documented this much more carefully than I have, in part because I don't think the various Falcon revs are all that significant. Others disagree, and of course nobody really knows, except possibly within Microsoft.

I had taken pics of my lot 0836 FDOU motherboard. It was what I called the Falcon V3. It had the same size GPU, but had different markings on it. It was the 4+4 capacitor variety also (solid capacitors). I can post the links again, or anyone can search 8-bit's thread around page 20 or something like that. With the kill-a-watt, this xbox 360 ran 102 watts a the dash and ran Halo 3 @ 120-125 watts.

I returned the 0836 today and opted for a 0837 non-X FDOU. Bboyhacks from 8-bit's thread told me about an arcade 0839X, and I went with the intention to get it. But, with my kids absolutely loving the Indiana Jones game, I had to take the newest holiday bundle I could score. I went to 4 other BB's tonight (5 total)hoping to find a newer holiday bundle unit but I didn't. ugghhh

This one (0837 non-X) is the 4+4 variety as well. The only difference is the readings from the kill-a-watt. At idle on dash, it is 92-94 watts. Since the unit has only been on for about 20 minutes now...Indiana Jones is the only game I have to report...it's running 119 watts. If anyone is interested, it also scored a 60.0 PFC on the kill-a-watt

So, if I was going purely on the dash readings, I would be optimistic that there is something interesting under the hood. But with the Indiana Jones readings.....I probably got a nice Falcon GPU on the sweet spot on the wafer.

As usual, I will tear it apart....even though we can pretty much guarantee it's not a Jasper. It's for the sake of science!!!

Darrell if the 4x4 capacitors is the falcon V3 then what is the 4x2. I trade in a 4x4 0839x and got a 4x2 0839x at the same Target

Yes that does seem rather interesting about your New Watt readings.
But alas i think we already know that an 0839x didnt have that great of readings. But i guess we'll see when you tare it for the sake of science, and our sanity hehe.
You dont own halo 3? did you rent the game for the watt readings?

Circuit City is shutting down 150 stores nationwide. They are not getting new stuff now. There was a story a couple of weeks ago about Sony trucks en route to Circuit City stores/distributors being called back.

I also follow the discussion for a long time now. And so i joined here. I always take a look to our MediaMarkt Stores here in my town in germany. Last weeks they had new boxes, always LOTs from 835 up to 839, but since monday they are down again. All boxes in 3 stores have lots between 805 and 832! And no difference between the boxes, arcade as well as elite. I hoped they will get new boxes with latest losts, but it seems our stores are filled up with all the old boxes now....

I hope there will be enough peolpe buying the old ones cause that will be the only chance to get a jasper soon.

So, it doesn't look like the LOT number coordinates at ALL w/ the capacitor count. Since Darrell's 836 had them 837 had 4x4 capacitors, but one 839X and one 842X did not ... it must not be that particular a change. Seems odd to do something like that for a few weeks then stop.

Like most of you, I'd prefer to be running a Jasper. Been waiting a while but I'm going to be picking up an xbox either way before the holidays.

In a Baltimore area BB, the best I've seen is:

Manf date: 9/08
Team: FDOU
Lot: Can't recall off the top of my head
System: Pro

Of course the Elite systems are a bit older... which leads me to a slightly non Jasper question.

This will be my first xbox and I want to make sure I get enough HD space. I realize the Elite Jaspers make take a while longer to show up due to their slower sales. I'd like to hang on and get the 120 gig hard drive but... Do you all think the 60 gig drive will be enough? I only plan to have 2 or 3 games installed on it at a time, but I'm going to download many XBlive arcade games. No TV shows/demos but I will do some netflix streaming. Do you think 60 GB will hold me over? I've searched around but havn't been able to find any real info on this.

I've heard you can get 7 games installed on the 60GB HD. Haven't tried this myself, but it seems right to me. So if you are going to have less then 1/2 of that tops, I would imagine you'll be quite fine w/ the 60.

JasperHunter or 8bitjoystick (if you've come along), I think a summary of current status and higher numbers seen that are Falcons and news on 4x4 capacitors would be good.

Hey guys followed the 8-bit forum for a while but didnt post as it looked to be going south. my xenon died a couple months ago but I am holding out like alot of you. In Newtown area (NE Bucks as well) I agree about the circuit city, they were useless in oxford valley but BB had plenty newest of the bundles was the 60GB 839xx. Hopefully after next weekend there will be alot of new stock arriving.

I'll have to re-examine my 0837 again. I plan on ripping it apart tonight. I'll post pics and readings from Halo 3 too. But, when I hear people talk about 4+2 layout, I took it for granted that people were referring to the taller black capacitors as on Anand's site and on Ben Heck's site. When I looked at mine briefly last night, I saw the smaller solid capacitors and assumed I had 4+4. hmmm.....

I wonder how many others have a 4+2 silver capacitor combination?

Sorry for no updates. My daughter and her mother played Indy for quite a while.

I ran into a problem and wondered if anyone else encountered it? So, it's a brand new unit... when I try to get on LIVE, it sees the NXE update and tries to do the update, but I get an error message saying it couldn't complete the update. Now, I can't even recover my gamertag from XBOX LIVE since it wants to do the NXE update before anything else. I tried for about 3 hours last night and this morning before I went to work. Anyone out there experience the same thing?

On a disappointing note, 8bit closed his thread on seattlepi......it just got out of hand.

the 839x I have has the small silver capacitors with a lite blue top with a white line across the middle of the top. Its a 4x2 layout.

Has your unit running? Is this your first 360? How is the heat coming out the back of it?
