well, I'm 95% convinced that we have Jasper now, comparing images of the GPU from xbox-scene forum post Link and the falcon GPU shown on AnandTech the new GPU die is visiblly smaller, with a different configuration of the smaller little chips around it. Also the 256mb of motherboard built in RAM is a good indication of a major revision.

also the little sticker at the top on this picture from the xbox-scene post has "Jasper 1weeks run-S22" - Sticker

this all seems to confirm it people. now just have to wait for the slow and cumbersome retailers in the UK to get through their 6 month old stock and bag myself one.

any people bought and received a 360 from Play.com in the last few days in the UK could you tell us the Lot# they are upto, I'm hoping they get Jasper in their next delivery batch as thay are sold out at the moment

Woo Hoo.Now I just have to wait and see if my local gets these Jaspers in.I must admit it a bit of a bummer to still see the X-Clamps on the mobo. But I suppose it may not have and adverse affects on the chios since it wont get as hot as usual. If any one in the UK gets a confirmed Jasper from any of the Large retailers,Tesco Amazon,Play,GameStation,Game etc then a lot of us would be very happy to hear about it.

The question now : how to identify jaspers on shelves without opening the box/bundle ?

We know that a jasper must be a lot 843 or higher but we know that some lot 843 are falcon. The new internal 256mo could be a good information, but is it indicated at the back of the jasper boxes in the marketing spec section ? If yes, it could be very simple to identify jaspers !

If you're looking for an Arcade unit, just check on the box to see if it says that it has 256 MB. Kind of like this.

So, yes, a very easy way to tell a Jasper from a non-Jasper. I don't know if that means that you have a Jasper in your hands if you're holding a Pro and on the box it says that the Arcade has 256MB..

I'm waiting in UK too, wondering what is best way to get a Jasper.

I'm perfectly okay with buying an Arcade and a 120GB hard drive rather than waiting for Jasper Elites.

Is it online (e.g. Play) as they must turn over lots of inventory centrally, or is it at retail (e.g. Game) where one can actually look at the boxes and refuse to buy if its an old one. Hrm...

Mmmm, I reakon play is going to be the best, they do have lots of turnover on 360's, but you might just get unlucky and get a falcon..My best bet would to to visit Game/Gamestation....the big retailers and inspect their stock.

That is one thing I aint done, can you actually go into a store and ask for a specific lot number?

I haven't actually ordered one from Play.com myself yet, I stopped when I read one of the latest customer reviews from just a few days ago, with someone saying the unit that bought was manufactured in September, nothing more specific than that though!. At the time Play.com had sold out of the 60gb non-bundled units. I hope they get the latest lot#'s in with a new delivery, but obviously there is no way to check.

My latest trip to ASDA living in Durham city revealed thay only had lot 0833 FDOU Arcade units in stock.

I think we need the help of the UK Jasper hunting community here to find retailers, ideally online retailers in the UK with confirmed Jasper stock.

Personally I'll probably wait until after the christmas holidays and buy early in the new year as there is still going to be a huge stock turnover in the next 3 weeks to get rid of the old Falcons

** just checked on Play.com and they have removed most of the 60gb X360 bundles, now only 2 available, compared to about 6 a few days ago, possible indication of a long term 60gb shortage, and hopefully Jasper once they get the 60gb units back in good supply

Don't got to Game/Gamestation, they are the most unaccommodating swines I have come across.

I have went to town today and went to the main Game store, and spoke to the deputy manager.

He said that none of the Game/Gamestations stores have the consoles on the shop floor, for fear of people stealing them.

He also point blank refused for anyone to look through them as they have 400 consoles in the back and it would take too long to look through them all.

I then went to the other smaller Game store, they have 50 consoles in the back, and again point blank refused to look at them as the only way to tell the difference is through the window at the back of the box to the console which it was claimed if they open the flap will damage the box.

I then went to Gamestation, who had 15 consoles in the back, again refused to look because it would damage the flap on the console box's window.

They said there is no way to guarantee what stock they have even with the latest ones in stock, as new deliveries do come in frequently however the consoles possibly will have been sitting in their warehouse's for months (not a very good admission for them to have made there IMHO).

Same goes for Gamestation as Game's warehouses supply Gamestation stores now too.

Also to add, not one of the people I spoke to in the three separate Game/Gamestation stores had the slightest clue when I said I wanted the new Xbox360 Jasper, one of them even tried to explain to me that I was mistaken and really meaning to say I wanted an Elite, which I had to correct him and say, no I was not!.

How can Game stores know nothing about what they are actually selling. If I worked in a PC store I would be expected to know about new CPU's from Intel and AMD and such, but it seems Game stores are different.

Well maybe your local stores are like this, but I have to admit when I phoned my local GamesStation the guy was only to happy to look at the box and tell me what number was on there,BUT as I mentioned before I dont think he would be willing to open the box and let me check out the details on the actual 360.I havent gone in yet and asked mind you,but you never know.Just hope they get the Jaspers in soon though.Oh the first time I phoned and asked if they had any "Jaspers" the guy knew straight away what I was on about as he is looking for one himself, but when I phoned the last time the guy didnt have a clue(I think he was ginger and thought I was taking the piss)I guess its just your luck who you ask.

It won't be just plain RAM, as the memory contents would disappear as soon as power is lost. It'll be some form of non-volatile memory, such as NAND Flash.

How would you verify that anyways? The Arcade units came with a 256meg memory card regardless, so either way they have 256meg of memory included. I didn't see anything specific on any of the boxes that stated whether it was an external memory card or otherwise. There's no incentive for MS to change the box, that's just an unnecessary additional cost.

I think the memory chips being moved back to both sides of the board and that we're back to the same old non-solid caps supports my theory that these changes were purely related to component availability and likely do not reflect any significant revision to the Falcon design (Falcon "rev 2" and "rev 3" that we've referenced in the past).

Turns out this is not a reliable indication, because you might just find a separate 256MB memory unit instead of it being built in... Check jake77444's post on xbox-scene.

Hi,

I checked three stores in Germany, in the Rhein/Neckar area:

MediaMarkt Viernheim: All Arcades, PROs and Elites mostly 82x some 83x no 83xX or even 84xX. But they today have the Arcade for only 111,- EUR!!!
MediaMarkt Mannheim-Sandhofen: Many 360s (also many bundles). Mostly 83x, only one 841X PRO. They sell the PROs for 188,- EUR. The TombRaider Bundles are all repacks.
MediaMarkt Heppenheim: Only two TombRaider bundles both repacks (TEAM ADUE LOT# 844). They get new consoles probably next week.

All the consoles were manufactured by TEAM FDOU, no CSONs. Strange I have never seen CSONs in Germany?!

Keep you updated!

I think CSON must be more common in the US, I've never seen a CSON in the UK either, all FDOU units here, possibly all FDOU in Europe too?

Can I ask anyone in the UK, do Asda and Tesco have the Xbox360 boxes out for people to look at or are they hidden away in the back.

I don't believe I have saw a console box on the shelf in my local Tescos (its one of the huge 24 hour ones). But TBH I have never made that big of an effort look.

Its a bit of a travel so would like confirmation before I waste a journey.

It does seem Amazon and Play seem to be the likeliest route, but the big gamble is you do not know what you are getting until it arrives.

How are Amazon/Play for returns solely due to (what they will see) the customer being awkward. Would I need to pay for returns postage, and how would things go if I opened the box to see what PSU was in there?

Also anyone considered asking Microsoft about which CSON is Jasper, back in September when I telephoned MS, the Indian help desk absolutely assured me that as soon as Jasper would be released they would be told about it and offer help on which consoles are or which aren't.

Posts on the blog suggested that the MS help center won't offer no help, but now that the whole internet seems to have the reporte out that Jaspers are in stores, do you think it would be a waste of breath phoning them or not?

Okay, I saw an Xbox360 Elite with a 0843x FDOU Date: 10-23-2008 out in the wild.

Is this a Jasper as well or is it just the Arcades or Pros that are Jaspers so far?

Thanks.
