Like many others I have been watching this thread for a while, and this is my first Xbox. For the other people still looking for Jaspers I figured I would give my information (I stole alador's info format) but updated with my info on the box.

360 Arcade holiday bundle (Sega Superstar Tennis included)
Purchased: 1:00 PM 12-2-08
Location: Target, Annapolis, MD Team: FDOU
Lot: 842x
Last 5 serial #: 84205
Manufactured: 10-18-08
12.1 amps
New jasper style power outlet (2 section top bar)
150W power supply
Built in 256MB MU
XBOX 360 ARCADE SYSTEM VALUE BUNDLE 2008 E (on sticker on outside of box, yes, there is a sticker for the serial/manufacture info on the box)

I bought it at Target and got the $20 gift card with it (for free) which made it a pretty good deal. The thing I first looked for was the "XBOX 360 ARCADE SYSTEM VALUE BUNDLE 2008 E" text on the sticker on the outside of the box where the serial/manufacture info was because I noticed with other confirmed Jasper Arcade units on this forum that they have all had this text on them. (it looks identical to the one in this link: http://s401.photobucket.com/al...iew&current=Jasper.jpg except mine is Lot No: 0842X.) Then just to make sure I looked in the little window in the box and if you push the Xbox unit inside the box over a little, the power info says "12V--12,1A;5V--1A". However you can probably only see ",1A;5V--1A" that part of the power info which should be good enough to tell. However if you want to take an extra step to confirm then you can use your finger to tear over the piece of cardboard that is obstructing the view of the remainder of the power info. From just that information I was pretty confident that it was a Jasper, so I think those that are still looking (at least for a Jasper Arcade unit) can use that information to help them.

Dell still has a 15% off deal going on w/coupon #CTV2$2HX963145 which didn't work for online checkout but did work when I called and placed my order by phone yesterday. I got a Pro 60GB Holiday bundle w/Lego Indiana Jones and Kung Fu Panda. Was scheduled to ship today 12/2, but I got the email today from Dell stating that the new estimated ship date was 12/9 as they were out of stock and expecting a new shipment direct from the factory. If that is the case(that they are getting a factory shipment vs a warehouse stock shipment) it bodes well that it will be a Jasper. *crosses fingers*

*Just realized how long it's been since I was here by how outdated my pc sig is! That was when overclocking AMD XP-Mobiles was the fad!

good thermal interface material, when applied properly is always better than those stupid pads. However, those two criterial (good TIM, and applied properly) are not particularly easy for a factory building tons of systems to pull off. It's definitely not cost effective. And that is why you don't see it on any of these consoles. Instead we either get pads or globbed on cheap TIM. If you're willing to void your warranty for whatever reason, applying your own TIM is not a bad idea if you know what you're doing.

MS officially confirms internal 256MB memory on Arcade. Doesn't mention Pro or Elite though.

As if all the images and videos weren't enough evidence, we've now received official confirmation from Microsoft that new Xbox 360 Arcade units do come with 256MB of internal storage. Speaking with us, a Microsoft spokesperson said quite simply, "We are constantly updating the console's more than 1700 internal components. We can confirm that we are moving to internal memory for the Xbox 360 Arcade. The physical internal memory is the same size as the previous external memory units - 256MB."

So there you have it kids, the Xbox 360 Arcade now has internal memory instead of an external Memory Unit. That means you can save games and download content right out of the box, but if you want to take it anywhere, you'll need to pick up a Memory Unit like everyone else.

So just to confirm, as this is all getting very confusing.

Jaspers have a sticker on the box.

And on this sticker it says as its distinguishing feature over Falcons.

XBOX 360 ARCADE SYSTEM VALUE BUNDLE 2008 E

If I go into Game/Asda tomorrow and say to look at the sticker on the box for one saying "XBOX 360 ARCADE SYSTEM VALUE BUNDLE 2008 E" that is the one that I want, will that be a reliable indication I will be getting a Jasper.

Where about's is the sticker, too is it on the back of the box?

If not is there anything on the box that I can say to look for to distinguish it being a Jasper.

So I have a question. If I open my Arcade and then add a hard drive, will I be able to use both the memory and the hard drive?

Thanks

Yup. The internal memory just acts like a memory card.

So please forgive me for being so stupid. From what I have seen the pro probably doesn't have the internal memory. Does that mean that the Arcade has a performance or storage enhancement advantage verses the Pro or Elite by having the extra 256mb? Or is it just an extra 256mb to be used for storage, etc?

Thanks

Dude

From what I understand 16MB of the 256MB is being used in lieu of the 16MB video buffer. The rest is being used as storage. There is no performance benefit otherwise.

I still don't get it though. If my Jasper Pro can boot into NXE w/o the hard drive, doesn't the cache onboard have to be bigger then 16mb?

I'm wondering if JasperHunter is onto something. Do they just 'null' out the extra cache on Pro consoles?

Only way to distinguish it w/o opening the box is to look for the 12.1A part of the sticker. Its to the left of what you can see easily in the box cut-out. You have to shift the xbox as far to the right as you can, then lift the cardboard a smidge. See my pics I posted earlier, then imagine that sticker in the cutout of the box.

Just checked Etobicoke Walmart, BB and EB Games.

All units are 0836 or below! Does anyone have any good news for Canada?

Also EBGames in the mall all have Xbox 360s made in AUgust and the guy said he has alot in the pack. so i think im gonna try my luck with Dell next week

Yea, i had no doubt that a silver paste would be better than the pad, Though in terms of how things were, i think the pad may be doing a better job than the factory workers using the paste cause they pretty much put a toothpaste full onto the die when they did use the paste.

As for people worrying about voiding the warrenty sticker behind the face plate, Its actually quite simple to take it off without voiding anything. Simply just use a decent hair dryer to heat up the adhesive behind the sticker and then slowly peel it off and then leave it upside down somewhere while you do whatever you're doing to the 360. Then re-apply when finished. Ive never done it before on a 360 cause i dont have one yet, but as far as stickers go, thats how you get them to peel off without ripping it.

Hopefully my store has gotten some new 360s from tonights truck, i'll check them out tomorrow when i get off work.

While looking for Jasper Pros, I have seen more freaking 836s than anything else combined. I thought it was a regional thing, but quite a few other posters have been mentioning them too. The plants must have been on fire that week.

American Jaspers have the sticker on the box you are referring to, also note the part of the label that says "Only for sale in the US"

We do not know what labels the UK versions will have, or what the designation will be. However, it is interesting to see that Amazon refer to current arcade model as:

Xbox 360 Arcade Console (256 MB Memory Unit) (2007)

I imagine it should not be too long before we see:

Xbox 360 Arcade Console (256 MB internal memory) (2008)

Um, no. Flash memory is nowhere near fast enough to be used as the video buffer. I think what I read was that it was replacing the 16mb of on-board firmware flash.

Cool. That explains my my Jasper Pro does not have the larger cache. Though I still think JasperHunter may be onto something w/ MS nulling it on the mobo or some other wizardry.

It's not a video buffer, nor was it ever. 16MB was the original flash memory for the system firmware/OS. That is now upgraded to 256MB, with the remainder available for general storage use.
