I'm curious about the lot# on the console too. Regarding the Elites that I looked at on Friday, the lot#'s on the consoles we're all one week newer than what the label read. If the same holds true on this one, the console may have been lot 846???

FYI-Target is running their gift card promo with xbox purchase again. Hopefully they will move a lot of stock this week.

No, they only have the standard 16mb of memory installed.

btw, @ dudewheresmyjasper: Peter Moore once said in an interview, he felt the vertical position was better for ventilation. I agree, because the side of the xbox that gets warm is the side with the Mobo underneath it, which just happens to be the side it lies on horizontally, just like the Wii, which also gets warm there. Plus, vertically the xbox is surrounded by more air volume than horizontally. That said, if you have a Jasper, I wouldn't worry anyway, and the temperature difference between horizontal and vertical shouldn't be that great. Just do what you prefer, cause horizontally the bottom vent is completely free and can suck even more cool air.

No one have any word about the hunt in the UK?.I must have a Jasper Im about to crack and just go out and get a Falcon.Worse still im really considering picking up a PS3 instead.Really cant see there being a Jasper here soon probably well into Jan/Feb.Wonder if the guy who posted about the Jasper Elite went out a bought it?

Nothing yet as far as I can tell, A guy on a Jasper thread over at AVForums said his Amazon.co.uk purchase that came lst week had a munfacture date of 19th Oct, only 4 days out from the 23rd that is the apparent date to look for. so I don't think they are far off selling the Jaspers.

I've nearly pulled the trigger twice now on a Faclon, but am resisting until I get Jasper Now, be it Jan/Feb I'll wait, worth having I feel

I am also thinking about a PS3 as well, but they just cost far too much in comprison.

Why on earth would you get a PS3? Every multi-format game is better on 360 than PS3 -- you only have to read one of Eurogamer.net technical face-off to see that is true -- and the exclusives are better on 360, PS3 ones look 'meh' to me. Although I guess you might already have 360!

If the Jaspers are breaking out all over Europe (Germany, France, Spain, etc. above) then UK cannot be far behind, UK is largest gaming market in EU by quite some way -- nearly a third of revenue IIRC (Europe is the second largest games market in the world, after Asia, USA is third) -- so there should be plenty of sales.

Today according to industry site http://www.mcvuk.com/ Zavvi have cut price of Arcade model to sub-£100 in the run-up to Xmas; this should really shift Arcade models, and hopefully will drive through new inventory through the channel.

I already have a launch Xenon, that is still going strong (in a minority probably). I desperately want a Jasper, but also a PS3 as I'm in a minority myself of owning a 360 compared to rest of my friends, so just social reasons really, my hardcore gaming will always be on X360, better Online experience, better controller, better gaming expereience all round

My Local Zavvi is 20 miles away in Newcastle so not going to get there until the weekend i.e. none left in stock to check over for Jaspers by the time I get there.

You should persuade your friends to buy the <£100 Xbox 360 rather than you buy PS3 and check what batch numbers they get

I know a couple of guys who used to have 360s, sold them and bought PS3, and are now buying 360s again (coz they are cheap) this Xmas because they miss the Live, the games, etc. (they've already bought them and they were Falcons).

I know a guy who has just sold his 360, Wii and DS to get a PS3, foolish in my opinion, better have both than just the PS3, but he'll be back! lol

With regards to the hunt, I have just come back from Currys, and they had a week 42 Team FDOU Arcarde.

Taken from the AVFourms by a trusted source, just 1 more week and we should have some joy.

this was a newcastle store not sure which one, I'm checking in my local Currys (Durham City Retail park) tonight along with the neighbouring PC world, same company really, but who know's their stock my be different

Hi guys,

I hope everybody finds their Jasper before Christmas arrives. I am very happy with mine. One word of caution...please don't take it for granted that this new XBOX is indestructable. Don't go placing it on the shag carpet or anything like that.

If you recall, I deliberated about doing the X-clamp replacement. I thought about it for a few days and came to the conclusion that if it helped resurect some dead xboxes, then it could also possibly be used for preventative measures. So, I broke down and bought the hardware for the mod and set out to do it.

In my attempt, I tried an experiment....by no means is it a controlled experiment. It's none of the sorts...I wanted to see if after making the mod if there were any appreciable results from ditching the X-clamps. What I did was power up the xbox without the casing....everything was still connected (don't want a XBOX LIVE ban) just the unit was outside the case. What I found was interesting....I had the fan in it's original location, using the shroud but the DVD drive was tilted upward and sideways so I can access the heatsink. After two minutes in the dash, THE HEATSINK WAS PRETTY DAMN HOT. Like I said, I'm not a rocket scientist and I don't have a infrared temp gun for accurate results. I was a little put back when I put my finger on the heatsink and got the instintive "pull away" response from touching something unexpectedly hot. I put my hand on the CPU heatsink and it was much cooler to the touch, which I expected since I heard most of the heat is coming from the GPU anyway.

Next, I tried the same thing..touching the GPU heatsink after the X-clamp removal. Same results......A HOT HEATSINK. I wish I had a temp gun from a gas powered RC car or something so I could have put some numbers to it. I'm going to go out on a limb and say even though it was hot to the touch, it has to be better than the falcon chips. If I can scrounge up some cash, I am going to get some temp readings.

Moral of my story......continue to treat your XBOX with respect and make sure you don't block the ventilation points.

Yes, I plan to check my local retailers again tomorrow, I am in the home counties. I am also going into London in the week, so I'll check a couple of stores in the West End too.

As I said above, UK is the dominant market in the world's second largest market we should be seeing new consoles soon, unless Microsoft dumped a shedload of their old inventory over here in the hope that it would all be cleared more quickly. Which would make sense as a business strategy, reducing impact of the Osbourne effect and all that, sadly for us Jasper Hunters in UK.

middlep1: that guy is an idiot, he must really love the PS3 'exclusives', either that or inferior versions of multi-platform games; to trade THREE console platforms and their games for a PS3. I sense that he will be mighty disappointed!
