Paid, not payed.

Played the Crackdown demo last night. I think it's a cool game but the steering (in car) controls SUCK ASS. Seriously, they need to tighten that sh!t up. I tried the first checkpoint race and said screwit after that. My only other gripe is the cops kept on turning on me. The first safehouse - they kept on shooting at me after I killed all the perpz, then I lost gun points (or whatever it's called) because I pwned them.

Will have to play more though.

Heavy Weapon - meh. Wasn't that impressed. They need to bring an overhead shooter game to Arcade, that would be sweet.

I'll have to admit Crackdown didn't "grab" me like I was hoping. Don't get me wrong...I'm sure if I invested a good bit into the game...I might enjoy it...but for the 30 minutes I played...it wasn't pulling me in. Fired up Gears and was immediately addicted again.

I haven't touched GoW since Rainbow came out. I might have to fire that bad boy up again tonight or something.

Yeah right, you'll turn on GoW and play maybe 5 minutes. Then you'll realize R6 blows it away and will come back

I"ve been having fun playing horrible games gamefly has been sending me. Marvel Ultimate alliance at the moment, star trek legacy this weekend.

I guess I'll be the contrarian of the group for R6 like purbeast0 was the contrarian for the Crackdown demo.

I just couldn't get into R6. I don't know what it was. I just wasn't having fun with it like I was with GoW or Lost Planet multiplayer.

Well, people like RagingBitch and me have been playing R6 since the original Xbox on consoles so maybe that's why we like it so much.

I DO like GoW, however, I like to have more gameplay modes. That's the only thing keeping me from playing it more often.

I have yet to try Lost planet, waiting for gamefly to send it. I am HOPING it's good. I always play the single player campaigns, but multiplayer is a huge thing for me.

Oh, and purbeast0 was a contrarian for R6, too

Edit: I just thought of a complaint for my favorite game (R6). I am getting sick and tired of people stacking teams constantly. Every time I get into a server I see all the people on the opposite team are in the same clan. (Which doesn't ALWAYS mean something) If I jump into a game like that I just leave right away. No one wants a good, fair game. Everyone wants an easy win for points just to rank up.

But that makes it even more fun to kick their asses.

Hah yea, I'm basically anti-everything on Xbox360 except like 4 games

Well not really, I'm just very picky with games. I'm the exact opposite with movies. I enjoy many MANY movies and take them for what they are worth. But games are a different story. I think it's just because I am really into them and I analyze them and pick them apart.

And I have to admit, I haven't played R6 final, I only played the demo. The demo made me not want to even try out the final game.

TheSpecialist (one of the hackers who worked a lot on the original Xbox (360) DVD Firmware hack) sent us an awesome new tool that will allow you to use your own new SATA HDD in your Xbox360! No more 100usd for 20GB
The current tool only works with Western Digital BEVS series HDDs (20GB or larger needed) and for now you can use max 20GB, but when Microsoft will release larger drives you will be able to use as much space as Microsoft's largest HDD.

Here's the full readme with all the details:
Hddhacker v0.5B by the Specialist.

*************************** DISCLAIMER ********************************
This tool has only been tested by me. It worked for me. While great care has been taken, this tool may contain bugs and therefore may seriously harm your HDD. Use at own risk !!!
*************************** DISCLAIMER ********************************

What: This tool will allow you to use HDD's that are not 'certified' by Microsoft.
This specific tool is written for use with the Western Digital BEVS series
only!

How it works:
x360 HDD's contain information on sector 16 about the HDD: the HDD serial number, the model, the firmware version and the size in sectors is stored here. The x360 asks the HDD to identify itself, by sending an 'IDENTIFY DEVICE' ATA to the HDD. It will compare the returned information to the info that is stored on sector 16. This information on sector 16 is signed and thus can not be changed. This tool will mod the FW from the WD HDD to comply with the information on sector 16, so that the 'identify' information will match the information on sector 16 and your x360 will accept the HDD as valid.

How to use:
Get yourself a Western Digital SATA BEVS HDD. Copy sectors 16 - 22 (7 sectors) from a valid x360 HDD to the Western Digital. Then, boot to dos (not a dos box from windows) and run this application. Make sure that you have ONLY this Western Digital drive connected to your sata controller, have the other devices disconnected. Then follow the instructions on screen. Keep in mind that you have to start the utility from a writable path if you want to create an 'undo' file (it will save it to the path you've started the tool from). Make sure that you have FIRST copied the sectors 16-22 onto the drive, BEFORE using this tool ! The tool will need that info on sector 16, otherwise it doesn't know how to mod your FW.

After the tool has flashed your drive, turn off your computer, wait a few seconds, restart your computer and re-run the tool. The tool will tell you then whether the whole thing was succesful.

FAQ:

Q. Will this tool allow me to connect a 500 gb drive to my x360 ?
A. No. The information on sector 16 is signed and can't be changed. You can only use size where you have a valid signature for. In otherwords, if a bigger HDD comes out, you can use that signature.

Q. With which HDD's does this work with ?
A. It should work with *ALL* Western Digital HDD's from the Scorpio BEVS series.

Q. Do I need the same size WD HDD as the size on sector 16 states ?
A. No. You can use bigger HDD's, but you can't use more than the size stated in sector 16. You can NOT use smaller HDD's than the size on sector 16 states. For example, you can use a 40 GB HDD with a sector 16 from a 20 GB HDD, but not the other way around of course.

Q. Can I use the HDD in my PC again ?
A. Of course. The tool comes with an 'undo' option, that will restore the original size. For example, you use a 40 gb WD HDD, you copied 16 sector from a valid xbox 20 gb HDD, so the tool will transform your 40 GB HDD into a 20 gb HDD. However, you can restore it to 40 gb anytime you want. The tool has the ability to create an 'undo' file, BUT this current version doesn't contain the option to flash it back. The next version will be able to do that. Just create the undo file and wait for a new version, should be out in the near future.

Q. Why do I need more sectors than sector 16, if that one stores all the info?
A. The following sectors contain the MS copyright logo and is checked for by the x360. Without it, the x360 will reject the HDD.

Q. I have a x360 core version and want to use this hack to buy a cheap HDD. But how do i connect it?
A. MS uses a specific connector. While it doesn't look too complicated to create your own, I haven't tried this myself, but I'm sure there are some creative hardware minded souls out there that should be able to think of something

Q. How do I copy the 7 sectors?
A. You can do so with tools like hex workshop, winhex etc. If you don't understand these tools, ask somebody who does.

Q. The tool doesn't detect my HDD !
A. First, make sure you are running it from dos, not from a dos box under windows. Then, try playing with the SATA/RAID settings in your bios. Not all SATA controllers are supported. I use a VIA controller, which works perfectly. However my tool fails to
see my Promise controller. I'll see if I can support more different controllers in the next version.

Q. Your tool says everything was succesful but the drive doesn't work in my 360 !
A. Make sure you have copied sectors 16-22 correctly and didn't change any data.

Q. Could you do this for my Seagate, Maxtor, Samsung or whatever drive too?
A. Yes, but I don't have plans to do so. The cheapest WD drive (40 gb) ships for about $50 and thus is one of the cheapest. It is a lot of work to convert this tool for usage with other brands and I don't think it is worth the trouble.

Q. So how do I get my 80 GB WD HDD working as 80 GB in my x360 ?
A. There are 2 options: wait for a release by MS, so you can use that sector 16 (or hope that the rumours that they ARE out there already are true) OR wait for the kernel to be hacked. These are the only 2 options.

Q. Where can I donate ?
A. Nowhere. Just enjoy

Thanks to: Team MODFREAKz for his initial logic board experiments, Loser for his findings on the sector 16 and everybody else at XBH.

Honestly, I think if you didn't like the demo you won't like the final game. It's really not that much different. Oh well, not everyone has to like the same games
there are a lot of games people on here like that I can't even stand. As an example, I hated Halo 2. HATED it.

Oh hell yea, I hate the stacking of teams. I admit - I do stack teams when Jerry's playing - of course, we *have* to be on the same team considering our XBoxes/TV's are in the same room right next to each other, but two people on one team isn't really stacking per se.

And yes, it just makes it that much funner to kick their ass. Remember that game last week - playing a team/clan, the lowest a 2nd LT, (all silver bars, one Lt Colonel), once I joined and we were on the same team we owned them for 4 games in a row. I think I ended up getting booted. It's always easy to pick out the noobs who ranked up using a rubber band, as 99% of those guys did that.

Jerry did play against a clan of Elites though - they were really, really good. Wore almost no armor whatsoever, impossible to kill, their kill/deaths were all at least 20-5.

Was that a game where you and Jerry were both in? I remember playing with Jerry for a bit and we were definitely kicking the other team's ass in attack & defend. they couldn't even get past the middle area in the DAm

Don't think so, at least the game in question - he joined and ended up getting on the wrong team, and they booted him b/c he cussed them out. On the Dam - found the perfect spot to defend at - I rarely die there even though you kind of are in the open. Go out the main door on the right. The first stairway you encounter - there's a pillar. Do a cover on that pillar and you're in the absolute perfect spot to defend. (Can peek around both sides to cover the right middle entrances. You also have the bottom floor covered too so they can't sneak in from the bottom) Never lost when I've covered that spot. I frequently run out of ammo because I don't ever die in that spot though.

Oh - one more gripe about R6 - STOP PLAYING THE FVCKING CASINO 24/7. I'm so sick of that level, probably the reason why I don't hardly ever play R6 anymore. When we change the maps to anything else all the noobs are like "I don't know this level, can we go to Casino?" Even Jerry's like "I'm so awesome now, I can hold elevators/rappel by myself". Makes me smile though when we actually change levels and the former top guys can't get 5 kills in another level.

Maybe that's what I didn't like about R6. It seems like I couldn't ever find a game that wasn't playing Casino.

If you happen to play anything other than Attack/Defend you'll usually find a better assortment of maps/people not hording Casino. If you ever happen to play while I'm hosting I'll do a level other than Casino.

Same with me. GoW looks pretty, but man I have more fun with R6:V.

I'm sure R6 is fun...but I only buy so many $60 games...so I've been holding off on it. The demo was fun...but not enough for me to jump in. I really liked the Lost Planet multiplayer demo...so I've been thinking of picking that one up.... we'll see. Now that I've bean GoW in hardcore (I only play an hour or two of single player a week), I need a new single player game to play when I'm not wanting to play multiplayer.

Well everyone LOVES to be on Attack in calypso casino because it's basically easy points. I hate it too. That's why I play a lot of retrieval. end up playing a lot of other maps that way.

I'm interested but at the same time this was one of the worst kept secrets in gaming. Everybody figured that UT wasn't going to be a PS3 because of GoW.

Sounds like Overstock.com (10% or 12% off coupon) or Circuit City ($40 off $199) are the only deals right now.

Nothing as good as the Microcenter deal before Christmas.

Yep. That's all I've seen so far. The Overstock will save $70 off of retail (8%+ tax here) so it's good enough.

My buddy's GF is actually going to get it for him for Valentine's Day, and they usually ask me if there's any deals going on before buying stuff, so I figured I'd ask here.

Microsoft just sent over 8 copies of Gears Of War and 2 copies of the Xbox Live Arcade disc. Now absolutely everyone in the office with a 360 will be ready to roll with chainsaws!

Looks like UT 2007's name has been changed to UT 3 and it is now coming to the Xbox 360 (at some point Sony was touting UT 2007 as a Sony exclusive).

I guess no one likes unreal tournament here...

I'm a big fan of the UT series. I played in clans for the first UT for several years. But when UT3 comes out I'll likely get it for the PC. I think the fast pace lends itself better to using a mouse.

The company I work at is a Microsoft Gold Partner - we do webhosting and a lot of their in-the-wild betatesting for free. We're probably the biggest MS zealots outside of MS proper - the Xbox 360 hooked up to the 80" projector in the boardroom is testament to that.

The disc has Geometry Wars Evolved (must have), Bewjeled 2, Wik: Fable of Souls, Outpost Kaloki X, and Texas Hold 'Em (the one most of us got for free). Sort of irritatingly, though, the disc has to be in the drive to play any of these. What a step back.

Link - Looks like Forza 2 is going to have a release date sometime in May.

Our schedule right now has us hitting Xbox certification around the middle of April and going gold soon aftewards. We want them to put the game on shelves as soon and fast as they can humanly muster. So optimistic estimates have us at retail in the first half of May -- obviously the sooner the better and that's our goal.

I know this game will be great(judging from part 1), but I am worried about the lack of any media for this game besides cg.

Pricecut unlikely in early 2007. DUH

Following yesterday's announcement by Microsoft that the company would cut its Xbox 360 hardware shipment guidance for the 2007 fiscal year, Lazard Capital Markets' Colin Sebastian has commented that a price reduction for the console is ?unlikely?, at least in early 2007.

In a research note to investors, Sebastian commented on the implications of this announcement, stating, ?Based on the company?s revised unit guidance and stated focus on segment profitability, we now believe that a price cut on Xbox 360 hardware is unlikely in early 2007.?

?However,? he adds, ?we would not yet rule out a price reduction or promotional hardware/software bundle before the end of the calendar year depending, in part, on the competitive landscape.? Currently the Xbox 360 is available under two distinct SKUs, with a $299 model being available without a hard drive, and a $399 version with the hard drive included.

Microsoft CFO Chris Liddell announced yesterday, following the company's second quarter earnings announcement, that shipment estimates for Xbox 360 hardware had been reduced from 13-15 million to 12 million for the fiscal year ending June 30th, 2007. The company had shipped 10.4 million Xbox 360s to stores by the end of 2006, surpassing its previous estimates of 10 million.

Regardless of Microsoft's revised outlook, the analyst notes that the overall impact to software sales for 2007 will be negligible. Lazard currently forecasts a 15 percent software sales growth within the U.S. for 2007. Much of this expectation, according to Sebastian, is based on a strong line-up of titles currently expected to ship in 2007 for the Xbox 360, including Halo 3, Grand Theft Auto IV, Crackdown, Mass Effect, Bioshock and Splinter Cell, among others.

"North America remains the strongest Xbox 360 market," wrote the analyst. "However Microsoft appears to be making some strides in other geographies, most notably in the U.K, while we believe sales remain weak in Japan."
