Now that Crackdown owners are able to play the Halo 3 beta, we can have a good idea of how many users are currently playing Halo 3 online.

According to Bungie.net, 53,517 users are playing Halo 3 as I write these lines while only 17,538 gamers are playing Halo 2. It is also worth mentioning that over the last 24 hours, 306,877 unique users played Halo 3 while in the same period Halo 2 had 212,602 users playing the former king of Xbox Live.

and I just started downloading it this morning before leaving for work...

BB does not do online game rentals. Store only. If you sign up for their online service though, you can get one or two coupons (depending on what level of service you sign up for) that you can use for free in-store movie or game rentals.

To Kev's question - You get the rental period plus 5 days before they charge you a fee.

They do require a credit card "pre-authorization" before they will rent 360, PS3, or Wii games though.

So is this correct:

I can rent a game, keep it for 7 days + 5 more until the "sell date" - then if I want to keep it out for longer than those initial 12 days, I can pay the $1.25 restocking fee and just keep it up to 30 days more?

It seems like too good of a deal to me so it must be wrong...

Some of those are pretty sweet. The mongoose one is just a glitch, as it is beta stuff. The going up high stuff is pretty cool. I think those lifts are going to create a lot of little things like that for this game.

Tell me about it. I still don't know if I'm going to be able to try out the beta today. I've got to finish work and then go straight to my kid's school for his kindergarten graduation at 7PM. After getting home and going both kids to bed I doubt I'll have time to play any before I crash.

Tell me about it. I still don't know if I'm going to be able to try out the beta today. I've got to finish work and then go straight to my kid's school for his kindergarten graduation at 7PM. After getting home and going both kids to bed I doubt I'll have time to play any before I crash.

Sleep is secondary to Halo 3. Don't be such a little pansy.

No legit users have reported this message; inquiries to the xbox live support line by people on forums said that reps were only saying that 'xbl might be experience problems in some regions'

But then again, no false negatives were reported.

That is good to hear. I hate hearing stories about innocent people getting their accounts banned while weeding out the hackers.

Try this:

Note : A rare bug has been discovered that sometimes results in improper text display in the game UI. Basically, you won't see any text at all. If you encounter this issue, you can fix it yourself by doing the following:

Restart your Xbox 360
Boot up the Halo 3 Beta
While the Halo 3 Beta is loading, immediately press up on the D-Pad and hold the A button until you see the Bungie logo. If you perform this correctly a dialog box will appear confirming maintenance has been done to your system.
Resume the Halo 3 Beta!

It's not quite the same issue, but it might help your situation. I also read that you need to clear your HDD cache as well. (Of what in particular? I don't know, not the game itself but all other Halo 3 files I'm guessing) You might also powercycle your 360

Servers are bonkers right now. Heh, the max load I've heard they have had is 80k today. If they're not ready for 80k, they are definitely not ready for tonight.

That's awesome, I love it. Like someone said earlier, as long as innocents aren't banned, then this puts a smile on my face. Will it stop everyone from finding a way around it? Why no. But it does put a huge damper on those wanting to play some Halo 3 .
