downloading the beta now through crackdown. I had to clear my hdd cache to get it to start, though.

Go to memory tab, hit Y, then hit X, X, Left bumper, right bumper, x, x

and start your downloads!

Yup same.

It's been a long day for a lot of people but we're happy to announce that effective immediately, a title update for Crackdown is available on Xbox Live that will fix the issue that previously prevented you from downloading the beta. The Microsoft team just deployed this fix and when you launch Crackdown you should receive a prompt to download the update.

Please note that it could take up to four hours for your console to receive this update based on various factors. However, the good news is that we're in the clear and Halo 3 gameplay is just over the horizon.

We realize this has been a pain for many and an inconvenience at the very least. Given the circumstances, we've decided to extend the duration of the Halo 3 Beta from June 6th to June 10th at 11:59 PM PDT. So, you lost almost a full day of play today but to make up for it we're tacking on four more days (and a weekend at that).

We apologize for the delay and hardships this issue has caused and hope that it quickly becomes a distant memory clouded by good times playing Halo 3 with your friends.

Note : A rare bug has been discovered that sometimes results in improper text display in the game UI. Basically, you won't see any text at all. If you encounter this issue, you can fix it yourself by doing the following:

Restart your Xbox 360
Boot up the Halo 3 Beta
While the Halo 3 Beta is loading, immediately press up on the D-Pad and hold the A button until you see the Bungie logo. If you perform this correctly a dialog box will appear confirming maintenance has been done to your system.
Resume the Halo 3 Beta!

How sad am I? I called home and walked the wife through getting it started for me . It started downloading for her with having to clear the cache, so I hope it's still going when I get home. She got it to the downloading screen at 1%, so we'll see how slow it will go. Hopefully it'll be done by 7 in the morning so I can play before heading to work. Best case scenario is that it will be done downloading in about an hour's time, but I seriously doubt that's happening.

EDIT: I happened upon the bungie site when people just started posting that it was working, so mine's been going for about 25 minutes now. I'll update where it's at when I get home in 45 minutes.

There were some contests, but since you don't know about them and they are long done for, then no, there is no other way for you.

After about an hour of downloading, I was at 41%. Haven't checked it in the past 15 minutes, though.

I really like the demo so far. played 1 map, but I have to go to bed now.

Had a lot of fun, but had to get used to the controls. sniped quite a few people

im really considering buying crackdown to play this beta, even though i already bought and sold crackdown weeks ago (did't think I'd care to much for the beta)

At my pace, I'll be done sometime after 1am EDT, that's assuming it doesn't slow down. I guess I'll get up in the morning and put in an hour before I go to work.

I probably got it downloaded in less than 45 minutes. I was watching Lost so I wasn't paying much attention, though. It definitely was much less than an hour .

I was actually surprised at the download speed.

It was hard to quit playing, it's a lot of fun

I'm pathetic, im just sitting here watching it finish from 90%. sooo close. didnt seem like it took that long, but thinking about it, it will probably have downloaded for about an hour roughly

Not too late actually I believe. Just got in my first match, that snow level looks sick.

I just played a bit, the sound is great and it plays nice, but damn it's graphics leave much to be desired :/ I expect more from the flagship title for the 360.

They really need to flip on AA in the final version. Hopefully they can pull that off. I think the visuals however will shine in the single player as they have always stated, but the gameplay is bar none, it is Halo but smoother, which is a good thing.

I seriously don't see the SP graphics looking that much better. they would have to be at least 3-4x times better for me to be wowed..this game looks horrid in its current state.

Horrid, no way, not on my 61inch sammy it doesn't. Looks damn nice to me. Of course, I'm not looking for gears visuals out of Halo3 MP either. However, what they showed at E3 2006 was in-game and it is said to be what the game is supposed to look like as far as single player goes. That is my expecation for the single player and I imagine it will look on par with those visuals.
