Too bad it seems to make the thread open REALLY REALLY slowly. Fusetalk is a weird piece of software IMO - I don't understand why, since the thread is split into pages, it should load any slower than any other thread, even if it is ginormous.

That has been irritating me a lot lately. Especially at work where it seems like it takes forever to load. I guess it would help to make a second official thread.

Damn... Just played the Ninety-Nine Nights demo, and the game is friggin' awesome. It reminds me a lot of God of War, with the combos and fighting style. Give this one a try!

Yeha the Ninety Nine Nights demo was pretty fun. I was worried that it would just be a Dynasty Warriors clone, but it's so much better than that. I may have to pick it up.

It has to do with SQL, not FuseTalk. When a recordset is generated containing the results of a query, it's faster to retrieve records 1 through 50 than it is records 2950 through 3000.

Aww, man... that sucks. I was hoping for some co-op like the game Hunter.

I'm 100% sure there is a deep multiplayer portion. I'll post a link when I find what I was reading earlier.

Found it: http://www.gamespot.com/xbox360/action/...ow/news.html?sid=6154129&mode=previews

yah what BoberFett said. I was talking about Dead Rising.

Upcoming XBLA games:

August 9: Pac Man

August 16: Texas Hold 'em

August 23: Time Pilot

August 30: Scramble

September 6: Lumines Live!

I thought "Scamble" was "Scrabble" at first. I wish it was because Scramble is a mediocre retro space shooter.

edit: N/M - Gamespot is saying this is not the correct list.

Microsoft: 360 HD-DVD drive will be cheapest

Major Nelson's podcast reveals that the next-gen console's external high-def DVD player will be the least pricey model on market.

By Tim Surette, GameSpot
Posted Aug 8, 2006 10:30 am PT

While most hardcore gamers believe it's the games that will win the next-gen console war, others believe it will come down to something entirely different--movie playback. Sony has been banking on the PlayStation 3's integrated Blu-ray drive to move its console, and Microsoft has countered with an external HD-DVD drive, set to go on sale later this year.

The high-end models of the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 are $599 and $399, respectively, but the PS3's price includes the system's Blu-ray drive. Microsoft still has not yet announced a price for the external HD-DVD drive, and its cost could sway the next-gen race.

On the most recent episode of the podcast from Major Nelson, aka Larry Hryb aka Microsoft's director of programming for Xbox Live, Hryb had a few members of the HD-DVD team on his show for an interview. Though they didn't reveal an actual monetary figure for the drive, they did drop a few hints.

Albert Penello, Microsoft's director of global marketing, had this to say about the drive's price. "Here's the truth, we're still thinking about it. Here's what I can tell you for sure, it's going to be the cheapest HD-DVD player you can buy...without a doubt, when it comes out," he said. "Everybody is very enthusiastic with the direction we're going. There's still a few surprises left. I don't want to spill the beans yet, but I think people are going to think it's a great value."

Currently, only a few HD-DVD players are on the market, and they bottom out at just over $420. However, the Xbox 360 external HD-DVD drive won't require all the hardware of a stand-alone HD-DVD player (that will be provided by the Xbox 360), which should cut into its cost.

Penello went on to discuss Microsoft's strategy with movie playback on its next-gen console. "Xbox has always been about choice. It's always been about 'How do you want to game? How do you want to get online? How do you want to communicate with people?' What I'm excited about is that now we're going to say, 'How do you want to pick your next-generation DVD format?' We're not forcing consumers to buy something that may be obsolete, or forcing them to spend a lot of money on something they don't want." He added, "We're not betting our whole console on an unproven media format."

I am all for MS not forcing HD-DVD upon us. I am pretty into technology and how good stuff looks on my TV, but even I won't get the HD-DVD player right away. I probably won't adopt HD-DVD's for a while actually.

It's a better approach giving us a choice than forcing it on us IMO though.

Ok, so when they say "cheapest HD-DVD player on the market" is that taking into consideration the cost of the 360 or is this just BS marketing speak? Because the HD-DVD add-on doesn't work without the 360 so the cost of the 360 should be included in the total cost of getting a HD-DVD player.

The Toshiba HD-DVD player goes for around $500 and less. That means the HD-DVD add-on shouldn't be anymore than $99 if you include the cost of the 360. I'm afraid they are BSing us and it is going to be more like $150 - $200 for the add-on.

You can get the Core Console + $199 HD-DVD player and still have it be a dollar cheaper then the Toshiba HD-DVD player. Plus, you get the gaming capabilities as well.

But no, no one knows if they meant with the 360 or without :\.

I belive it is implied that its 360+HD=Cheapest HD player. And I would assume they are being semi-tricky and using the core price, if anything. So 300+200=500. Or if the HD player is even cheaper (I see it being 150 or even 100) then it makes sense. I wouldn't be surprised if it came in at 129.99

guys are you even reading these articles? the cheapest HD-DVD player on the market is $420 ... $420. so that means, including the price of the core, it would be $120 max if they are including the cost of the core 360 in it.

i dunno, even I may slip up and purchase it for $120, but it all depends what movies are out and how much they are at the time.

Isn't that a street price? I believe the cheaper Toshiba has an MSRP of $499, doesn't it?

I think it's wishful thinking to presume MS is factoring the cost of the 360 into its estimate that this will be the cheapest HD-DVD on the market, but that being said, they can't expect to sell many if the drive is more than $200. I know I'd buy one for $150 or less, just to see what my HDTV is really capable of (HD-DVD is a much higher-quality signal than broadcast HDTV).
