Official Xbox 360? Thread...

I cannot be the only one who is tired of all these early 80's arcade games on xbla. I am an 80's guy and grew up playing arcade games in the early 80's but enough is enough with the defenders, galagas and froggers of the world...etc. I could understand games like Gauntlet being released because the game is best with 4 players but not simple shooters.


Contra I would love to give a shot but I actually preferred the NES edition (same goes with Super Contra). I never liked the animation (especially the awful and awkward jumping animation which the NES version didn't have) and didn't the arcade game use a rotary joystick?? Its been forever since I have seen a Contra arcade cabinet. Also, there is hardly any visual improvement from the trailer that I have seen. Only the explosions were improved.


Castle Crashers I'm interested in for some good 4 player beat 'em up action and Small Arms looks good.

I'm with you there. It was good when there was a mix between the retro games and new games...but lately it seems like the retro games are vastly out-numbering the new games.

i am too. i grew up with fighting games in the nineties and it's like they don't know what "classic" means in that sense sometimes. I don't see how UMK3 is considered a "classic". Any true MK fan can tell you that MK3 is where the series started to go down hill.

want a classic MK game? throw 1 or 2 up there with live capabilities and i'm telling you, you have a killer product on hands. I mean look how SF2 took the arcade by storm when it was up there? If only the net code was a lil better though.

I would love ... i mean LOVE to see MK2 or KI thrown up on XBLA. those would probably be my most played xbla games.

It's to the point that I don't even download demos anymore for the xbla games cause I'm tired of the really old crap.

Nevermind, called all the gamestops in my area and it looks like Wednesday is the day. At the earliest tomorrow night, but that doesn't work for me anyways.

Do they normally get you new games quickly?

It's been pretty good so far. Although they have a distribution center in my state so that helps matters. It usually only takes 2, maybe 3 days.

I've been signed up with gameznflix for about 10 months now, and never have had any problems until recently. I always got my games very quickly, never any delays over a day or two. But now, I've been waiting for two games for over 30 days, both of which state a short wait.

I'm thinking of cancelling if they can't get their act together.

Yeah same here. I've had gameznflix for almost 2 months now. I just have the one game plan.

I also have a 3-game plan from gamefly. I mailed 2 games back to gamefly and 1 from gameznflix all last monday. I already got one game from gamefly, the other should arrive tomorrow. The gameznflix game JUST showed up as being returned today.
gameznflix goes to gaithersburg, md (i live in northern va) and gamefly goes to inglewood, ca.... go figure.

Normally I had gameznflix games before gamefly even RECEIVED the games.

Call of Duty 3 Video Review

Pretty much what I expected. Looks fun. I loved COD2 so I'll be getting this. I've been thinking of ebaying Splinter Cell. I don't know what it is about that game that is just rubbing me the wrong way. It's not that it's bad...I don't know. I just know that with COD3 and GOW coming out I doubt I'll be playing it very much.

splinter cell's multiplayer is screwed up badly. luckily I got it through gamefly and can return it. it's "ok" but it gets really frustrating when it takes 10 minutes to get into a game

What is really starting to piss me off about the 360 is how we see these videos of games, and then play them, and they look no where NEAR as good as the videos do.

I really REALLY hope that GoW looks as good as those multiplayer vids I saw recently (which I really expect it to since it's actual people playing).

GoW is going to set the graphical bar for the 360 if it looks as good as those vids.

What part about it did you not like? It's Rainbow Six. If you didn't like R6 on the original XBox, you probably won't like it here. I'm a fan of the duck and cover - adds a new aspect to the game. The grenades being a seperate button also adds a certain dimension. I'm going to be playing the hell out of this game on Live when it comes out.

Anyone else picking up the HD-DVD drive tomorrow? I'm considering it, although in the back of my mind I feel it's a hasty move. Is there much reason to buy it with it's current limitations?

Actually, it is a pretty good deal right now. You get King Kong ($20) and the big 360 remote ($30). This effectively makes the HD DVD drive $150. This deal is good for only the first 500,000 units or something like that.

The reason I ask is because I preordered from EB Games and while they advertise it with KK, they don't have a separate Canadian website. The EB Games HD DVD drive page is for the US. Other Canadian retailers make no mention of King Kong whatsoever.

That's the number that I remember from when they first announced the HD DVD bundle. I could be wrong though. I'll double-check to make sure.

A few weeks ago, I bought three games at TRU that were not likely to drop in price over the next few months. Hopefully I can return at least two for other games because I want none of the ones I got. I plan to trade them in for GOW, Rainbow 6 and COD3.

COD3 you can. Several people on the XBL forums have the game and have answered a bunch of questions.

I think you can for non-ranked matches. For ranked matches, it is somewhat random based on the funky TruSkill algorithm. Xbox360 Fanboy has a post on it.

Basically, it sounds like you'll be able to play together on a team if you happen to get in the same match at the same time for ranked matches.

It sounds like it would be breaking the ranked multiplayer restrictions though.

Sweet. Honestly, I was worried about this game as I'm sure a lot of you were. We constantly get hyped and then let down. I'll be picking up my reserve copy after work today so if anyone is down for some 4 player.....Glamdring269 is my GT.
