I received a phone call recording from EB last night that said it would be available tomorrow (today) afternoon. Has anyone found this to be unreliable in the past? It's on the way home for me so it is no big deal just thought I'd ask.

BTW, is it about time for this thread to get archived or something? We need a new thread that doesn't take forever to open.

I guess it varies with location. I called both stores this morning and they said that the shipment was to arrive tomorrow.

Well I don't know about you guys, but I don't have a preorder. So.. who knows when I can get it.

I have a plan though

Going to stop by gamestop, gamecrazy, bestbuy and circuit city on the way home. Which will be in about an hour, so... hopefully they will have it before 1:30 today

I think it varies by l ocation as well. Most of mine are saying tomorrow, but 2 of them said POSSIBLY today but no guarantees, cause with games this huge, they like to get them available to everyone asap.

You really should put in a preorder. I went to 3 stores, 2 gamestops and 1 gamecrazy. As well as toysrus, bestbuy, circuit city. All of them had people coming in/calling NON-STOP asking for gears of war. When I went into gamestop/gamecrazy, almost before I got through the door they asked if I was looking for Gears of War, and told me they wouldn't have it till tomorrow. 2 of the stores said they only had enough for the preorders coming in also.

This was in Reston/Fairfax, VA though.

I put a preorder in at gamestop closer to my home, about 100 miles west of NoVa. Shouldn't have any problems tomorrow

Picked up my copy of GoW at EB Games on my way to go vote (priorities man, priorities). Looked like most of the copies they had were for preorders.

Now I have to wait until later tonight when my kids go to sleep so I can play GoW in all of its HD goodne....no, scratch that...in all of its SDTV goodness because my frackin' HDTV is broken and the repair guy won't be here until tomorrow and he probably won't even have the part to repair it!

As I posted in another thread, I was able to pick up my collector's edition copy at my local EB. They were only giving out preorders, and turned away a lady while I was in there who didn't have one. He told her to come back tomorrow. I've played it a bit, and so far it seems to live up to the reviews it's getting. Can't wait to play online later tonight.........

I'm hoping Circuit City will have a copy tomorrow. I have the 15% off Gears of War coupon that came in this months Xbox Magazine. Crossing my fingers. Might pick up COD3 while I'm there....assuming they have either in stock. Which they probably won't because Circuity City blows.

HOLY JESUS CHRIST!! Just reached a point in Gears of War that was probably one of the most amazing I've seen in a videogame. It's still towards the beginning, and so as not to give spoilers, it's right before you meet the "beserker". The sound was amazing, the graphics were uncannily real, the whole cutscene was OUTSTANDING. Get yourself a surround sound system if you don't have one, you'll fvcking need it. I literally had my mouth dropped open when you're watching the shadows on the wall.

I had to take a break after that, it literally took my breath away.

Well I gotta Say ... GoW is freaking awesome. I only played it for about an hour and a half last night, and some of that was online. The control takes a little getting used to, but wow the graphic are incredible. The somewhat choppy framerate in the cutscenes was kind of bothersome, but during gameplay the framerate is so fvcking steady.

In multiplayer I only played 3 levels, and one of them was the level it's raining and holy crap it looks incredible. I also played this level that was like a run down mansion or something, with water pouring throgh cracks in the cieling and stuff. It is the best graphics I have seen on the 360 by a long shot.

However I have my doubts about the online part. Seeing as though it's only 10 levels, and only 4v4 with 3 modes, I am worried it will get old quick. Both teams start out on different sides of the level and it just seems like the same strategies will start to be used over and over once people get used to the game. but then again I only played it for about 45 minutes online. i am definitly looking forward to going home after work and playing co-op with a friend.

I played a bit of the single-player last night (up to the introduction of the Beserker) to get used to the controls and then played online for a good two hours or so. Even though it was only 4x4 the levels are so tight that the firefights didn't get boring and tactics were constantly changing.

The only mode of online play that was dull was the "Assassination" mode though. This mode crys out to make use of camping. This resulted in two "Draws" when I was playing.

Even on my SDTV, GoW looked great. I can't wait for my HDTV to get fixed so I can play it there.

My only complaint is that sometimes the enemy AI gets dumb and the friendly AI gets stuck if you don't pass the right checkpoint.

Is it me, or does the voice of Fenix kind of sound like the voice of Wolverine in the old 90s cartoon?

So in Gears, I somehow being stupid, switched out my cool gun (the one with the chain-saw) for a stupid one, and didn't notice it for a bit (was using shot gun). Can I re-find (or get later on) my cool gun again? Once you pick it up, you don't throw your old one down so I didn't notice it there.

Guess I'm the only one here that thinks GOW is meh...

I played it for a good 5 hours last night.. and other than the new grafics it feels and acts just like GRAW. just another 3rd person shooter... except this time your killing aliens and crap..

sigh... I was expecting something revolutionary.. but all it boils down to is yet another 3rd person shooter... the AI is dumb.. runs into my fire arcs all the time.. or runs right into hostile fire casuign em to have to expose myself to res thier dumb asses..
or getting stuck and making me do all the work..

or getting in other impossible death loops.. might as well be a solo game for the most part.

the game is repetive and not all that engrossing.. and very very buggy..

feels very rushed in alot of parts.

oh well that will teach me to buy on hype instead of waiting for gamefly..

Grafics.. very very nice..
Sound: very good..
playability and AI= MEH

I've ran into a couple of bugs where I had to restart the game. Once was when I took cover against a column, and it wouldn't let me detatch from it or look anywhere but down. Another happened when I tried to reload, and something happened in the game at that exact moment, and I couldn't fire my weapon anymore. A quick weapon change cured that, but took me a few seconds to try and figure out what the hell was going on.

happened to me several times now.. all at key spots... left me fighting 2 emergence holes solo when all you have is dom as backup..

i dont really want to say the other places as they would be huge spoliers to people that arnt deep in thwe game...

but its happened alot.. and there are other AI bugs that will make them useless and put them in deathloops..
