First of all, downloadable video content isn't ready till Wednesday, the 22nd. Even still, I most likely will not jump on the bandwagon. I like the idea of renting HD movies, but the price is too high for just renting IMO.Originally posted by: Fingolfin269
So, can you guys give me your thoughts on the HD-DVD drive? Initially I thought I would pass on it and get a standalone but the people over at AVS seem to be very impressed with it. FYI, my TV is only a 42" Hitachi Ultravision 720P (the last year of the grey sets). I think it will work great with that set but just want a few more opinions before taking the plunge.
Also, is everyone ready to give the downloadable video content a go tomorrow?

As for the HD-DVD drive, I'm perfectly happy with it. It works flawlessly, and the picture is beautiful in 1080i. The single and only downside I've found with it is that it takes the 360 about 10-15 seconds longer to boot up now with it attached. It may be different without a disc in the hd-dvd drive, but I haven't taken M:I:3 out yet to test it. I'm guessing it reads and intializes the disc, which takes a big longer than regular dvd's.
You rent the movies in 480p at a cheaper price.Originally posted by: dlock13
Question on the HD movies. Say you don't have the 360 connected to an HDTV, will the movies still run at 480p? Or is it possible to rent the movies in 480p?

How do you know the pricing? Is it online somewhere? I know it might even be in this thread, but the thread loads SO slowly that I might never find it!

Edit:
Just got a call from gamestop, rainbow six will be available for pickup tomorrow afternoon good stuff!
Got my copy this evening after work, although I haven't played it yet. Will have to wait till later to play some. I plan on just playing some single player, although I have a friend from work who just picked up Gears, and may be calling to play some co-op. This was set up before I knew Vegas had come in, so we'll see how it plays out .Originally posted by: chrisg22

No pricing information yet...I think chris' point was to test out the content quality/see how it looks before buying a tv show and realizing "oh I didn't want this"

I was able to play some Rainbow Six Vegas, and I'm thoroughly impressed so far. The retail game plays just like the demo, so expect no surprises. There's only one addition I can think of, and then again, I can't really remember if it was in the demo or not. You now have a cursor when you are in cover with the left trigger button, which makes aiming your shot, then popping out to shoot, so easy. Once again, if this was in the demo, I just don't remember, as I've been playing too much Gears lately, which doesn't have the cursor.....maybe I'm just getting my games mixed up.
The game starts you out in Mexico, and while I've not played enough to get into the meat of the game (i.e. Vegas), everything looks good. After playing GRAW quite a bit, I'm about tired of the browns and greens of an Ubisoft-idealized Mexico.
I haven't tried the retail multiplayer, but reports last night seemed to point towards hardly anyone having the game yet, with only 4 to 5 matches going. Should be a different story today. One unfortunate thing I found was that you can only put your face onto a character using the Vision camera in multiplayer, not singleplayer. I tried briefly to see how it would work, but the upon accepting the last step (my profile pic), the game locked up. Guess I'm too ugly . I didn't bother to try again, as the lighting wasn't up to par anyway....I just wanted to see what happened.
Overall, I haven't played it enough to get a good feel for the game, but I'm sure it'll be well worth my $60.

it doesn't really matter but that crosshair while you are in cover, was in the demo And I love that also...
That is kind of a disappointment that you can't use your own face on the single player character, but at least it can be used online
I really didn't care for GRAW, so hopefully those Mexico missions end quickly. Talk about a boring setting.
