I've got mine sitting in a seperate cubby of my entertainment center away from all the other electronics and where it has plenty of room to ventilate all the heat. Not a single problem so far.
I've got mine right in my rack with the rest of my A/V crap. I'm not making special room for it, that's crazy.

I've got one of those entertainment centers that has a span with two bays over the TV. I've got my DirectTivo sitting in one and put the 360 in the other. My receiver and original Xbox are sitting in the right column rack.
I had the same setup before I moved in with my gf. I have a projector now, and all my crap sits on a 6 shelf rack. I could clear a shelf, because I still have a vcr hooked up, and I haven't used for about 2 years, but why should I? Microsoft is marketing the 360 as a home media center, so it should be able to sit with the other gear thats part that setup. If it can't, then Microsoft needs to fix it.

Well, I think the important thing is that it is in a place where it can ventilate even if it is sitting with other AV components. My right column has a glass door that would trap alot of heat from the receiver and 360 but I have to keep the door on to keep my kids out of that cabinet. I was not willing to sit the 360 after feeling how hot it can get.

Anyway, what were we talking about? Oh yeah, people lined up for an X Box 360 and they ran out, there's bugs in the original release...blah blah blah.

Thake a close look at 360's remote here Notice how Y-button has another label underneath "Guide" and B-button is also labeled "Live TV". Does it remind you of anything? I'll say that an update is coming soon that will allow 360 do just what you were talking about. At least I hope so anyway

It's for use with a windows media center PC. You can do all that kinda stuff using the 360 then.

So yes, I think its funny as all hell people got burned. Not necesarily because there was a product failure, but because people payed exhorbant amounts of money and waited in lines for days for a FIRST RUN PRODUCT.
It is NOT common knowledge/sense not to buy a first-run product. If everyone followed your logic, then the product would go away just as fast as it got here, because no one would buy it. Are you trying to say you're not a fan of capitalism either? Simple 5th grade stuff is knowing not to eat your own feces, not knowing to wait and ask mommy for a new XBOX360 next June or July because you think there will be problems.

If you say so. Thats all I can even think. How many times have you heard someone say they wont buy the first run of a car because they want the bugs worked out? Same deal.
But, like I said, if you say so......
And obviously because first unr products generally have higher fialure rates and higher rates of recalls I must obviously not support capitalism. Thats just brilliant. Spot on.

98% of everyone DID NOT pay "exhorbant" amounts of money for their system, and 99% of them DID NOT wait in lines for "days". Most everyone paid MSRP (the exception is the few on eBay), and most everyone probably waited no more than 8 hours I'd guesstimate.

8 HOURS, for a CONSOLE. Ridiculous. But, if they want it that bad thats fine, I wasnt the one inconvienenced by it so they are free to do as they see fit.

Specop, people like you kill me when you seem to get joy out of other people's problems. Maybe you're jealous because you weren't able to snag a system like everyone else? The fact is simply this; there are a minimal number of people right now getting lock-ups. Why is that all you're hearing about in some of these threads? What reason do the people who are having no problems have to come into a thread about XBOX360 issues? Those 95% of people who aren't having problems are currently enjoying their gaming experience (atleast I'd hope), and don't have time to join into conversations with angry consumers. I hate it for those people who are having issues, and you should too, not be laughing.

I hope their enjoying them too. Dont misunderstand me. I'm not laughing at them because their console users, or because its a Microsoft product. If could be the first 220 dildo with flashing LED's for all I care, the amusement I get is in the fact that, once again, a first run product is having alot of issues.
More to the point you should ask why? Perhaps MS was pushing too hard to make a release date and not QC the product....... No no, that couldnt be it. Microsoft has never rushed a product to market and had abnormally high rates of problems.......

Yeah, for every person that has gotten on the internet making a fuss about it, there's what 100, 500, 1000 that aren't having problems.

Just as much as the 360 was overhyped, so will be any issue that it has.

Funny... I used to have problems with the external power supply on the Commodore 64 (old school). I don't remember how much watts it put out, but, it got hot and over time the system got unstable. I used to put ice packs (in baggies) on it when I was doing some serious basic programming.

Hell, I'd still ask for a replacement. You shouldn't have to take these kinds of steps to avoid a $300-400 dollar console from crashing.

We've about 30 different post about problems. The problem is they sold 600,000+ units! That's such a small fraction of defects. I would say this is normal failure for computer type hardware. If you went and searched for people with problems with newegg, you'd find just as many post. Does that mean they suck and you shouldn't buy from them? Problems happen. It's not as big as it's made out to be though.

From an Abcnews.com article:

"Microsoft said it will pay to ship the console overnight to a repair center, overnight it back once it's fixed, or ship a replacement."

Thats good service.

I would like to hear the answer to this also. I read somewhere recently that it only does Windows native formats like .wmv and .asf. I was hoping to use the xbox360 to play downloaded TV episodes. But if it can't do XVID, then I guess I'll be sticking with my Philips DVP642.

No, the 360 does not support DIVX, XVID, QT out of the box. You can convert them over using this free application from Videora. I tried it the other night and it took about 13minutes to convert a 24 minute show on my AMD64 2800+ with 1gig of RAM.

It would be nice if MS released updates to fix this problem but I'm not going to hold my breath.

So has anyone used their media center PC to stream HD content? Does it work ok and look great?

I sure hope there's a free program to let XP users stream video

I called a local Best Buy today and they said they weren't going to get their second shipment until February

Fortunately, a local EB Games came through for me today on one of the 360s I preordered. They had messed up and skipped me on the list of preorders despite me being near the top of the list. Somehow they got one for me today.
