Today, at the Tokyo International Forum in Yurakucho in Japan, Microsoft held an Xbox 360 Media Briefing where the company outlined its new strategy for the Japanese market. New Xbox 360 games were unveiled, some of them being exclusives.
Namco Bandai had a big presence at the event. The third largest game/toy maker in Japan announced that its long awaited Culdcept SAGA will launch exclusively on Xbox 360 and promised to release more info about the game on April 14th. The publisher also showed for the first time in-game footage of Mobile Suit Gundam, revealing that the shooter will use a first-person perspective-- something that will make the game even more appealing in Western territories. Other game confirmed by the publisher were Zegapain XOR, based on the Zegapain anime TV series that started to air in Japan today.
Finally, Namco Bandai announced that Pac-Man and Galaga will be available for download on Xbox Live Marketplace later this year and will run in high-resolution.
Speaking of Xbox Live Marketplace, SNK, Konami and Yukes also announced that they will provide content for Xbox Live Arcade.
Square-Enix, expected to unveil a new RPG for the console, surprised the crowd by announcing an arcade-style shooter designed exclusively for the Xbox 360 by Game Arts. "Project Sylph" is the working title for the game and the publisher promises to reveal more details at next month's E3.
Although Square-Enix didn't announce a role-playing game, Microsoft announced that Tri-Ace is developing an exclusive RPG for the Xbox 360 that will be published by the software giant. No further details were provided but we expect a great RPG from the makers of Valkyrie Profile and Star Ocean.
Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey Update
During the event, Mistwalker president Hironobu Sakaguchi took the stage to offer an update on the much anticipated role-playing games, Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey.
Mistwalker and Microsoft Game Studios are on track to release Blue Dragon at the end of this year. Regarding Lost Odyssey, the game is scheduled for release in 2007 but to calm gamers' appetite, Microsoft and Mistwalker will release a twenty minute demo this summer.
