Almost perfectly so far. Minor slowdowns in a couple places (but never combat), and I got a "can't read disc - might be dirty or damaged" error once that I can't seem to repeat. Mind you, I never played it on the original XBOX, so I have no clue if I'm missing anything. I would say the most disconcerting thing is how it references the original XBOX's controls - "press the black button to chi attack". That's life, I suppose.

I have the demo of PGR 3 on my hard drive, but haven't gotten around to playing it yet. And, as I mentioned before, gave Kameo a try, but didn't like it. Any more suggestions?

EDIT: gamertag is "erwos", but I'm not sure if/when I'm going down the "gold" route

Retailers have confirmed that the limited bonus run of the Xbox 360 remote control has now ended, meaning that Microsoft is no longer bundling the Media Remote Control with new Premium-edition Xbox 360 consoles. This probably won't come as a great surprise to Xbox fans in the know, since Microsoft wasn't exactly going to be giving away bonus remotes forever.

However, the people who might feel stung will be those still on a waiting list for an Xbox 360 bundle since last year, as the no-remote deal will extend to their premium-edition purchases as well:

"The limited run of bonus Media Remote Controls is apparently over. A GameStop employee has confirmed to GameSpot that the bonus remotes have not been shipping with the Xbox 360 Premium Packs that have been trickling into their store. This means that Xbox 360 preorders that still remain unfulfilled--and may very well have been placed months ago--won't be getting the controller."

If you were planning on using the Xbox 360 as a media center of sorts, you can still purchase official and third party remote controls separately.

Kameo was the most intriguing and enveloping game I have played in a long time. It has a steep learning curve but.....what can I say. One of the best games I've played in a long, long time. It's a must buy IMHO.

Rarely can I NOT put a game down and this was it. Haven't had that "can't wait to play it" feel in a long time. Last time I had that feeling was with mario sunshine and zelda.

ps - getting ready to race.

Yeah, but there are thousands who pre ordered who still have yet to get theirs, who will now be fvcked. That's just wrong.

This is a direct result of retailers oversubscribing pre-orders. Blame them, not Microsoft. I'm trying to remember if it was GameStop or EB that had allowed pre-orders for something like 3x the number of consoles they were going to get in the December-March timeframe. The simple solution is to threaten your retailer with legal action if they don't make up for it in some way (eg, giving you some other remote). Of course, the remote isn't really all that amazing, but if you're going to use the MCE integration stuff on your TV, it's certainly cheaper than blowing another $30 on the official remote.

After playing the 360 for a while, I've got my wish list:
1. The accessory that's _really_ missing at the moment is a cheap, straight-into-the-wall charger/dock for the wireless controllers. I want to leave the controllers in a dock on an end table when I'm done playing, walk away, and come back to fully charged controllers. I don't want to have to shlep them over to some 360 to USB connect them - isn't the whole point of wireless that I _don't_ have to constantly traipse over there?
2. There are some games not backwards-compat that really ought to be - Morrowind and DOA Ultimate are the obvious ones.
3. If someone ported some console emulators to 360 and sold them on Arcade Live, I'd buy them in a New York minute. Not sure what Microsoft's policy is on this, though.

Since I finished Jade Empire last night, what should my next pick be? Halo, Halo 2, or DOA 3?

1. That's a good idea, maybe they will have a battery pack docking station sometime soon.
2. That will never ever happen. Why make DOA and Morrowind backwards compatible when they have a DOA4 and Morrowind (coming soon) for the 360, that will make they $60 a piece for the consumer to buy? Everyone is in business to make $$ . If old DOA and Morrowind games ever become backwards compatible, it won't be for a long time, well after the 360 versions are out.
3. There are major legal issues with this heh. But when a chip comes out for the 360, expect to see more homebrewn emulators.

Also if anyone needs a remote control I'd be willing to sell mine off for pretty cheap because I now have a Harmony remote.

Microsoft has stated their goal is to eventually make every game backward compatible. And as they pointed out, they did make the xbox version compatible already for a couple of games that launched on the 360.

eventually is the keyword.

only one that is BC and on the 360 already is Tony Hawk to my knowledge. And from what I hear lol, you mine as well just get the XBox version of that game

First, as someone else pointed out, they've already done backwards compat for games that were _exactly_ the same as on XBOX 360. And, to reinforce that some more, they _did_ make DOA 3 backwards compat. Why do that and not DOA Ultimate? Obviously, there's not a policy like you're describing.

Second, _Oblivion_ is coming out for 360, not Morrowind. One is not a replacement for the other.

COD2 Multiplayer Update coming

In addition, we are pleased to announce that we are testing a number of multiplayer enhancements to the community, including addressing the lag issues. We are working really hard on these updates. Development is a timely process and we appreciate your patience. Infinity Ward is excited about your enthusiasm and support for Call of Duty 2 and we look forward to speaking with you soon.

I have the Xbox original and the 360 and I still play Jade empire on the original. The 360 emulator for Jade doesn't support wide-screens! Halo2 and Halo work great though.

Major Nelson, in his latest podcast, interviewed someone from the dashboard team and he said that they're working on a fix so that you can choose if you want to boot to the game in the drive or boot directly to the dash.

Granted its in development and not confirmed, but still I'm glad, that takes care of one of the few complaints I had about the system.

If you have the remote, you can power on the system by hitting the Media PC button. Sure, it'll take you directly to that blade, but it's still better than automatically starting the game up. (But of course, the option in the dashboard is even better.)

I leave my cable plugged into my USB hub of my PC and charge it that way. I know it's not as good as having a dock on the end table, but I like it better than leaving it plugged in to my 360.
Now that I think about it... I wonder if I were to just plug my powered hub into the wall (without a PC nearby), if it would work as a charging base. I'll have to check it out when I get home tonight.

thats great news!

that, and not being able to download in the background, were the 2 "major" gripes I had about the dash. apparently they were both features that they wanted to have for launch but just couldn't get it out in time.

it is a Sim NFS is a arcade racer...
Forza, GT4 = Sim
NFS:MW, Outrun = Arcade
PGR3 = Somewhere in between

PGR3 has elements of both simulation and arcade. But it's definitely not a true Sim. (i.e. If you crash head on into a wall at 170mph, your car will still drive just fine.)

Imho, it's pretty much the perfect balance for a video game.

So in GT when you crash into a wall something happens to your car? Umm I don't think so, actually nothing happens to the car in GT, not even cosmetic damage. At least in PGR3, you can break your windows and such.

You are correct... GT4 has no damage modeling. However, I thought it does affect the abilities of the car. Am I mistaken???

nope, you can run head first into a wall and the car drives just fine.

on the controller battery life.

I've been pretty impressed overall, don't really need a charger here.

a 24 pack of alkaline batters is like 7 bucks...so I'd rather just get batteries than worrying about charging something.
