Highly doubt the source, but if it does come out tonight I'll be AWOL for awhile.

They are doing some updating to Live today. A new Oblivion trailer is available for download along with picture and theme packs.

Keeping my fingers crossed for a GRAW demo.

Ah, now that is some glorious HD Oblivion action on the 61in widescreen DLP.

I might as well cancel everything for 12 months when Oblivion hits the streets.

I'm hoping the demo will come out tonight also, but not really looking for it to. I absolutely love the ability to download demos at will for most of the top 360 games now, something that wasn't really prevelant before (without buying a magazine with minimal demos, mostly movies). But I have to wonder if offering the demos isn't costing the developers some money. I've read so many responses claiming that someone will not buy a game after playing the demo, but would have before. Full Auto is a definite example of this.
Yes but, at least for me Fight Night is at the other end of the spectrum. I never would have wanted to buy it if I didn't play the demo.
I have no doubt that developers and publishers take very careful consideration before releasing a demo. If they really thought it could only hurt sales (i.e. like a Gauntlet: Seven Sorrows demo might), then I'm sure they'd choose to not release it.

Well, look on the bright side: if devs know demos are in the cards, maybe they'll be less likely to release bad games... I can wish, anyways.

I am very impressed with the line-up of games coming out in the near future, and I really think it's some exciting times ahead. It's always a good sign when you can't decide what you want to buy, because everything looks so good...

Hey guys, quick question about PGR3. When I finish a race in the offline career mode, it will show my place, then show my credits I earned. After that, it will show where I rank on Live with Kudos points, and it will say League *, with the * being a various number. What exactly does this league number mean? Also, I'm always consistantly in the top 1,000 on any of the tracks I've done so far (10 races or so probably). Are there just not that many online at the moment with the 360, or am I better than I think I am? I never really try for kudos, so I can't imagine I'm doing great each and every time.

TIA

Each league has 1000 places. So... If you are in League 5, rank 354, that means you are ranked 4354 worldwide.

League 1 = 1-999
League 2 = 1000-1999
League 3 = 2000-2999
Etc...

That makes sense now, thanks. A little retarded, me thinks, but understandable. Like I said, I hadn't been trying for kudos, so my rankings now seem right. The highest league I ended up in was around League 9 I think, and that was a race that I got the Hardcore medal in. It took a couple of races, so I probably won't do that too often .

Quick question about Live:

I signed up for the one month free trial of Gold membership, with full intentions of tacking on another 12 months. I know I have the option of just going into the Marketplace and purchasing the extra 12 months, but I've seen the sub cards in stores that boast a 12+1 month subscription. If I purchase the card, do you think it will give me an extra month on top of the 12, therefore giving me 14 months total for the price of 12? Or is the free month I signed up for initially the +1 that's on the sub card? Granted, I'll have to pay tax if I purchase a sub card instead of just going through the Marketplace, but it will only be $3 extra, and still worth it IMO.

Good question - I'd like to know the answer, too, since I've got 3 Live-compatible games on the way...

Free Xbox Live Gold the weekend of April 1st.

When the new Xbox Live service was unveiled, Microsoft promised intermittent free weekend multiplayer gameplay for Xbox Live Silver members and the Xbox Live Calendar on Xbox.com has revealed the next liberated weekend.

Microsoft plans to allow Silver users to play multiplayer games online for 72 hours starting on April 1st. No, it's not an April Fool's Day joke. Verizon is sponsoring the event, which means they put lot of money so Xbox Live Silver users can play on that weekend. It's perfect for playing jokes at your Xbox Live Gold members.

Can anyone confirm the price on FNR3? Outpost had it for 59.99 still.

Yes, you will get 13 months. That's how I signed up. Even though there's tax, it's still worth it.

Is there any easy way to keep track of who's got what game? I'd love to play PDZ, DOA4, Smash TV, and/or PGR3 with other people from the forums...

The gamer cards kinda suck in terms of "I own this game". They can tell you if the person's played the game and gotten achievements, but that's it. Maybe they'll expand gamer cards in the future to include that information, or let me set it.

Xbox Live model must change says Arena.net founder
peaking to GamesIndustry.biz this week, Guild Wars developer Arena.net co-founder Jeff Strain has said that the business model used by Microsoft's Xbox Live service needs to be overhauled before the service will be attractive to MMOG developers.

Strain, who was a senior developer at Blizzard before leaving to set up Arena.net, believes that the business model used by Xbox Live is fundamentally not designed for the close relationships MMOG operators require with their players and community.
"Their whole goal is to encourage people to go and buy games on the shelf, then there's an online component for it," he explained. "But for us, when you buy it on the shelf, that's just the beginning of our relationship with you - and we want a direct connection with our customer so that we're always giving you new content, always supporting you directly. Xbox Live just wasn't really built, from a business standpoint, to support that."

Strain acknowledged that seeking to take the customer relationship away from the platform holder and back into the hands of the publisher or developer would be a difficult thing to negotiate, but he remains optimistic that both Microsoft and Sony will embrace the opportunity represented by the MMO market.

Hmmmm, perhaps the MMOG developers could change some as well?

FYI - COD2 demo is up on Live Marketplace.

This should have been out before Christmas though.

I think the MMORPG guy is somewhat right about the business stuff. What's needed is a different system, so you could pay for regular matchmaking and MMORPGs separately.

I think he's wrong in the sense that Marketplace is already set up for a continuing relationship with players. Maybe it could be improved, but there's always room for improvement.

That's what I was trying to imply. He made his statement as if Live needed to make all the changes in order to get MMOGs without considering that perhaps MMOG developers could change some to and meet MS halfway or something.

PGR3 Experts get ready to test your mettle against developers from Bizarre for a chance to win custom 360s!

On March 1, Xbox Live members are invited to challenge Gareth Wilson and Ben Ward from Bizarre Creations on PGR3 and PGR2.

In a showdown pitting gamers vs. developers, those taking part have the chance to be selected as one of the lucky PGR 100. As well as being a great honour to have bestowed upon a person, the PGR 100 will also win a limited edition Project Gotham Racing 3 black-finished Xbox 360 console. Simply beating the developers isn't going to be enough to win a place in the PGR 100 though - the guys from Bizarre Creations will be looking for flair (Woooooo!), style and finesse.

To take part in the developer showdown you need to ensure the following gamertags are added to your friends list. For PGR3 you need to add PGR100 1 and PGR100 2, and for those taking part in PGR2 races you need to add PGR100 3 and PGR100 4. Then all you have to do is log onto Xbox Live on March 1 from 18:00 GMT until 20:00 and check to see if you are invited to a game.

"We are really looking forward to taking part in the Developer Showdown event and helping to select some members of the PGR 100. Ben and I will have to make sure we brush up on our Project Gotham Racing skills so we don't get beaten too badly by the Xbox Live members!" said Gareth Wilson, Design Manager at Bizarre Creations.

Thanks on the confirmation of FNR3. It is on sale till tuesday...FYI.

As for the MMORPG thing. I would prefer the business to just be an extension of Live. So you subscribe to it for 800 or 1000 points and you need to renew every year or month or whatever they choose. I like the fact that Live is a one stop shop for all your needs. I quite enjoy the way FFXI is on Live right now....

Not a bad plan, really - considering Sony's handing the things out like candy these days, the initial cost might be cheap to free anyways. I still think hard drive size issues are going to come into play sometime soon, though...
