$704?

Better than the 3.4 with DDR 2?

Yup.

BTW, ALL 4700 and 8400 models have DDR2 memory even if they claim to have just DDR.

6800 sells for ~$230.
6800 GTO sells for ~$350.

Don't feel bad. Hell, until recently Dell did not even differentiate between a 6800 GTO and a 6800 vanilla. Either way it would read as a GTO, pissed off a lot of people. This is now fixed of course.

Only if they say so. They will appear in the details as "ATI E-HOME WONDER" or something like that.

Why would they sell a system with MCE and no tuner card? What happens when people click the "MyTV" icon?

The same thing that happens when a person adds MCE without configuring a TV card on new systems: an error.

Still looking for a really ultra hot deal...

$384.00 Dimension 8400 P4-3200 Windows® XP Home 160 G (I) (7200 RPM) 512 DVD 128MB PCI Express ATI Radeon X300 SE 56 MiniTower
$374.00 Dimension 8400 P4-3200 Windows® XP Home 160 G (I) (7200 RPM) 1GB DVD 128MB PCI Express ATI Radeon X300 SE Audigy 2 MiniTower

Those are good, but i'd return my 4700 if I can find a sub-$320 8400 P4 3.2GHz. I found one earlier today, but didn't grab it.

Bamacre,

Are you sure the 4700's & 8400's all have DDR2? I haven't read anywhere regarding that. Hopefully you are right, it'll make me feel better about the one I purchased for myself when I thought it was only regular DDR, but it did say it was the 6800 GTO.

How long has it taken Dell to send all of you their refurb systems? I'm curious because the one I purchased on Monday AM, I've already received it yesterday.. 2 Days (very fast). But the one I purchased Monday PM still has it in "Production" and it says it estmates a ship date of next Monday. I thought that was kind of weird. Unfortunately it was the latter that I'm looking forward to. <sigh>

I've never heard of Dell shipping a computer that needs an add-on card added to it to work properly. They're all about minimizing service and support calls.

I have a $320 MCE 2.8 256mb 80gbwith DVDRW and X300SE in my cart. Trying to decide to buy it or not. If there's a tuner card in there, that would tip the scales.

The Chassis that say 'desktop' those aren't those old style looking cases are they? Sit the monitor on top of them?

Positive. I got 7 systems in yesterday. Some are ready to ship from dell, others are not. I have two that are being held up. I have no idea why some are held in production.

That's OK, but IMO you should just look for the cheapest 4700 with enough memory and add a DVD burner on sale elsewhere if you need it. For example, I picked up a 12x DVD burner at staples for $31.50 (clearance) 2 days ago.

That advice doesn't apply if you're buying to resell.

That wasn't even the one I really wanted. I saw a 8400/3.2/1GB/256MB 6800 system for $530-ish and just missed it. Two $319 8400 systems with 1GB/3.2 popped up 5 and 6 minutes later.

And 1.5 (or 2... i forget) years ago I bought a Dimension 2400 in the outlet for $41 shipped.

I guess I just missed the last one, and was bottom-feeding on your leftovers. :disgust:
do the 8400's just go a LOT faster than the 4700s?

Some of you guys who are having a hard time grabbing systems should look into the proxomitron script for the dell outlet. I don't use it (so don't PM me!), but it should be fairly easy to look up in google or on FW.

I went to dell outlet, and instead looked at some of their inspiron laptops. They have some really good deals there. I saw an 8600 with 64mb vid card, 512mb ram, pm-1.4, 80gb drive for <900, and similar one with 40-60gb drive and 128mb radeon for <900.
