Proxomitron scripts are toys. There are far faster methods (don't PM me).

My brother is looking for a P4 2.8 with 1gb ram a DVDRW and a 17in Flat Panel. He only has a laptop now, so he needs everything (mouse, keyboard, speakers, etc.). Can he get one for under $600.

You'd be hard pressed to find all that under $600... especially with how many people are trying to get the deals.

He said $700 was his limit but wanted to keep it under that. I told him it is very unrealistic to get that, but I just saw these Dell deals and thought maybe. He doesn't game at all so think that is overkill. Maybe 512 ram and just a CDRW and DVD instead. Do you think it can be done? Maybe one of those small buisness outrageous deals with the free monitor.

Easily! Go check out the Dell Outrageous Deal for a 4700 with 17" LCD for $499. Add memory and a DVDRW and you're there, bro.

Yeah, that's fine but the 3000 with P4 2.8, 1GB, 80GB, 17" LCD, DVD burner, etc comes out to $887.

The 4700 was cheaper, but the $499AR deal is dead.

Indeed, Dell deals do pop up all the time. Last time around on the outlet I scored a pair of 8400s with X800s for under $550 shipped each. Just yesterday I ordered some Dimension 3000s with 3.0GHz/512MB/80GB/19" LCDs for $450 shipped after rebate. A few weeks before that it was Dimension 3000s with 2.8GHz/512MB/80GB/17" LCDs for $374 after rebate.

The all time best is still those barebones 400SCs with P4 2.8GHz for $124 after rebate.

Haven't had much luck during this outlet sale...yet. So far, just a few sub-$500 Inspiron 1150s. I found a few $299 4700s with P4 2.8GHz/DVDRWs last night, but I tossed them back.

Ok, I'm new to this and just starting to look for one. I saw a few that said 256MB Nvidia for the video card. What card is that?

Edit: Is the red price you see the price you get?

I've seen similar 530 systems for $200 less, but if you want a 64-bit processor and are not using a script that's OK.

Some greedy monkeys running a script that cotinuously refreshes the listing and adds cheap systems to cart. That's why all the good stuff disappears right away.

If you want the best deals, you pretty much have to use a script. Read a few posts up. I suggested one and where to find it.

Use of a script isn't necessarily bad, but abuse is IMO. It's actually pretty disgusting that someone would grab every single cheap system they can find for days in a row.

I grabbed ONE refurb using a program today (I ordered 2 this weekend, cancelled 2 others). It wasn't even the best deal I saw, but it was too good to pass up. I'm returning one of the systems I received today. I don't use the scripts that others are using/abusing (I use an app I wrote) and I don't feel guilty about it because i'm not nearly hogging all the deals.

Wow - the speed with which systems disappear is ridiculous! They should make the pages script-unfriendly

Hmm - or maybe I'll just go hunt down the script myself!

Yeah, that's what you should do.

I could link it directly, but google makes it very easy to find. Anyways, since I don't use it it would be pointless for people to PM me for help. If anyone wants it, i've already given basic info to find it several posts up.

And yeah, Dell could make the outlet very *script* unfriendly. They have changed a couple of things in the last year... if scripts didn't exist back then it would be harded to figure it out now.

Thanks, I think.

Just picked up a low-end system ($229 + tx) for my wife - she's upgrading from a Celeron 466 w/ 128 MB to a Celeron 2.4 with 512 MB....she doesn't game so this will be fine.

:frownamn, I just paid stuff off on that card too....:frown:

During one of the end of quarter outlet blowouts last year I got so fed up with the evil scripters I sent an email to the the Dell webmaster explaining what was happening and suggesting changes on how they could make the website a problem for scripters.

I'm gonna try and get one of the $229 8400.

BTW, I have not seen this posted at FW yet. If they find out you can forget getting any deals.

I tried using the "Proxomitron," and found it to be just annoying. I haven't used anything else, and never did find anything worth buying while using it.

It's in deal discussion on FW. Thankfully.

The $229 8400 was the reason I decided to look again this morning. That $229 8400 was virtually identical to the one I ordered today for $319... the only difference was 512MB in the $229 one vs 1GB in the $319 one. :|
