Just playing around. Sorry, didn't mean to interfere, I knew it wouldn't sell for that low of a price.

Hmm - not that I have a problem with you folks buying and reselling these, but doesn't Dell? Just curious

Although waying they should only sell to final users is unfair too, especially seeing as all the script users who are then ebaying th systems are the ones keeing the Dell Outlet running

I wonder what I have to do (can't hack scripts to save my life!) to get a good deal on an 8400 630 with XP Pro Been trying for 2 days now!

No comments on how much the 8400's I bought are worth? (see above post)
I do plan on keeping one, but I have to figure out if it's worth my time to resell the other or just cancel half my order...

I'm curious too. When you go to checkout one of the questions asked is if the 'Purchase is intended for Resale' (or not). I've never read over the terms of agreement for the sale, so that it would be interesting.

People may be ignorant enough to think "how would they know if I resell it" or "I didn't intend to resell it when I bought it" but the fact is if you transfer the warranty within a month on a whole bunch of systems, Dell would probably start to take notice...eventually.

But then again, maybe they don't care. So I would just wonder why they ask when you're checking out?

Even without scripts, you guys shouldn't have a tough time finding deals if you're smart about it.

It helps to know what you want ahead of time, so you can filter your search as much as possible.

Pay a lot of attention during the last 30 minutes of every hour for the drops.

If you sort the list by price twice, you can F5 without having to hit enter every time. Also, you can check the top five boxes and they'll stay checked so you don't have to furiously click each checkbox during drops.

F5 + clicking has netted me tons of great deals.

Another way to get a killer deal is to search for computers with great video cards...often times, scripters will sort based on price alone, but as gshock posted earlier, a $1100 Gen4 XPS w/ a X850XT PE is a great deal. Similarly, I netted two loaded 8400s with X800s for $1050 total...the video cards alone are worth around $180-ish, so the net price for the loaded 8400s was $320-ish.

Warm deals are easy to come across too. I've tossed back several $250 4700s...which is a great deal for a fairly modern PC with a PCIe x16 slot.

Thanks for the tips. Still trying ...

Is the 4700C as good as the 4700? Seeing as they last longer, I doubt it - just confirming. No PCI x slot, perhaps?

<edit> IS there a way to search for only 600 series (64 bit) processors? Seems searching for P4-3000 brings up both kinds.

This is a game Dell let all guys play, some guys get script, some guys get quick hand. It's fair enough.

Did you remember the AMEX "my card, my wish" game. Those guys who got $5000 BMW are all script expertise. Dell's game is like that game and also like all coupon games. (Monopoly always like discriminating customers) Just play it, you could win or lose, but it's a game!!

I am not a script runner, but I did get warm 8400 deal.

Last day for the instant discounts on some models. But I wouldn't be too worried; there will probably be another discount up by tomorrow or the day after.

Another question ... do the XP Pro systems come with the XP Pro CD? Or a dumbed down reinstall disk image type recovery disc? I usually nuke the disc, eliminate software and dual boot (after installing XP, then Linux), so a recovery disc would be of no use as it would nuke everything already on the drive!

The disk is more or less a XP Pro CD with a Dell label on it. It doesn't require a CD Key to install.

this used to be true but now it requires the key that is on the side of the case to install. And it will error out when you activate, so you have to call MS.

/had to do this 30 times in the last month for clients.

Hmm...I tried that...it may be effective for some people but for me its RIDICULOUSLY slower than just clicking submit. Am I the only one experiencing this?

4700Cs are basically 4700s that are compacted into a cool little case.

the drop late at nights. when even scripters are asleep.
no script can check out automatically for them! at least i don't think these people would let a script charge anything to their credit cards

i dont think 4700 and 4700c have the 6xx series chips. filter on 8400 if you're hesitant on the 6 series. although i think the difference is minimal... its not like the difference between the Athlon / athlon 64

4700c uses only half height PCIe even though it supports x16. be careful with those.

Though I didn't get the cheapest machine, as I had specific requirements, I did pick this up

Dimension 8400 Desktop: Pentium 4 Processor 540 with HT Technology (3.20GHz, 800 FSB, 1MB)
Microsoft Windows XP Professional
1 GB DDR SDRAM, 400 MHz (2 DIMM)
1.44 MB Floppy Disk Drive
250 GB EIDE SATA Hard Drive (7200 RPM)
128MB PCI Express ATI Radeon X300 SE
56Kbps Data/Fax Modem
Sound Blaster Live! 24-bit ADVANCED HD Audio with 100dB Perform
16X DVD ROM Drive
16x DVD +/- RW w/dbl layer write capability
Microsoft Office Small Business 2003
Image Restore Software
Logitech Wireless Keyboard and Optical Mouse Desktop Solution
(bunch of other softwares, mostly free)

1,094.00

I spec'd this at around 2K, so I think and hope its a good deal.

You know it's a slow day at the Dell Outlet when:

...people get excited over an Inspiron 1000 (14" TFT, CEL-2200) for $494.00

Good point! It's hard to say. I browse pretty fast and haven't seen anything exciting since I started checking at 11:47am PST.

Wow - I pop onto the website every now and then and no luck. At all! Looks like it might be worth staying up late. Gahhh.

Thanks for the tips folks, I'll eschew the (half height PCIe) 4700C, and filter for powerful 4700 or 8400 only. No way to filter for only 6xx processors, I guess

Now my uncle also wants me to pick up a cheap system for a cousin. Fun fun.
