I've been using Chrome primarily for the last few months. I can't stand that Ctrl+B / Ctrl+U / Ctrl+I shortcuts no longer work for PHPBB boards like this one.

LIES!!

You are a lying liar.

on my win7 pro system at home, I have the same [complete lack of] issues with FF running for many, many days.

at work, on my piddly iMac with OSwhathefuckever, it brings every thing down to a crawl. (with 3GB, totalRAM, too.)

In terms of pure speed, Chrome is definitely the best browser.

However, as a web developer, I prefer to use Firefox + extensions rather than Chrome.

My FF is taking up 1.2GB and I don't care. Still 6.8GB to go around.
The problem I've got then is that it typically locks up at around 1.2-1.3GB of usage. I don't know where it's keeping it either. I tried out an extension called Cache Status, to see if clearing the RAM cache would help out. Nope.
Yes, tis annoying.

But I enjoy being able to have 20+ useful extensions, too much so to switch to something else just yet.

I've been useing Chrome for the last few months, but just today went back to FF because Chrome has some strange issues with some sites I can't quite get over.
For some reason Chrome does not want to play with Google Play well. Since I use that a lot, it is getting annoying.

I love how you make a big announcement about something that pretty much everyone else did years ago. What's next? I switched to Windows 7 from XP?

Funny, I stopped using chrome a while back when I found out that flash playback isn't so smooth most of the time. Why? I'm not sure. And it could be fixed by now. All I know is that FF's problems can be remedied by not running it for days as a time. I could never get Chrome to act proper 100% of the time and there wasn't a source cause to fix it.
I still use Chrome as primary browser and have basically since it came out. The other ones are even more bloated and crappy, but I've had that flash issue, sometimes it will peg the CPU for no obvious reason and requires a complete shutdown of the chrome session.

I've wanted adblock for a long time for chrome but was always scared about its privacy message. I finally took the plunge 60 seconds ago after they've updated the link trying to assuage fears

EDIT: Oh now I remmber, I tried this a long time ago. Adblock for chrome breaks web pages.

I leave Firefox running for weeks at a time, and rarely have memory issues. It actually rarely uses more than 250mb. I have too many firefox add-ons to switch anyway.

-Amen. Never experienced any sort of memory leaks or random crashing or any other sort of nonsense with Firefox ever since version 3. Switched over to FF5 and its a little annoying that some of the plug-ins don't work simply because of a version check, but they really improved the look of the browser and w/classic compact and tabs on top the browser is minimal but still functional.

This instance of firefox has been going for the last couple of weeks (computer does go to sleep at night) and its current memory usage is 250Mb.

Dunno what the complaining is about.

When I update google earth, google keeps trying to ram chrome down my throat. For this reason alone, I have not tried it.

Memory issues has never been a issue with FF for me, heck IE tends to eat it up a lot more whenever I have to use that and never did care for chromes layout and their adblocker sucked and while it sounds a bit better now it's not worth it to try right now.

I used Firefox for so many years and thought I wouldnt switch for a long time but I was also tired of the constant memory crap and just slowness in general

So I gave Chrome a go, and its now the only thing I use... At first I was turned off by the simplicity of it, I felt that it lacked most functions I had on Firefox, but they were just placed somewhere

The thing is Chrome is SO FAST at everything, ESPECIALLY flash content, even a really old pc can handle flash just fine with this browser

I welcome our Google overlords

Count me in among the liars. I'm not saying that you guys aren't telling the truth mind you but there's something going on with your firefox installs that I just don't see happening on mine. I currently have firefox using 214MB of memory after letting it run all day and night with about 8 tabs left open overnight. When you have 8GB of RAM you really don't even notice a trifling amount such as that.

Using Firefox primarily on at least 6 different systems over the years, I consistently see excessive or out-of-control memory usage when the browser has been open for a significant period of time. That's without being influenced by other people. My previous workstation had 512MB RAM and I meticulously monitored startup processes, background services, and plug-ins. I even kept the "Themes" service disabled. Consistently, I'd find the system was grinding while memory was full and it was over-using the page file. Every time, I'd find firefox.exe occupying hundreds of MB with only a few tabs open. I'd close them all to the point where Firefox has a blank tab (about:blank) and no back buffer. It would still occupy hundreds of MB. Close the final blank tab and re-open Firefox, then everything is back to normal...maybe for a few hours. This was a common experience across multiple systems; at least 6 in total. I don't think I consistently used any particular plug-ins (maybe AdBlock Plus).

Chrome doesn't let you click or scroll on a page that's loading. Super annoying.

i've switched from firefox to chrome, too. got tired of firefox always freezing up because it's using 800,000 mb of memory.

something i will miss, though, are my add-ons (fireftp, etc). i will also miss being able to open recently closed tabs. i haven't been able to find that option with chrome.
