I am a FIRM believer in that I have the right to smoke and you have the right not to. But once my right to smoke infringes on your right NOT to, it is I who needs to back up.

And I HATE when smokers throw out cig butts on streets and highways. Not only is it a filthy thing to do, but the butts are not biodegradable and take eons to break down. During that time... birds and other small animals can ingest them, not digest them and die.

Please... don't put us all under the same umbrella.

It's an extremely common practice for people who hate something. It is easier to hate a religion if you label everyone as oppresive fundamentalists. It is easier to hate a culture if you characterize that culture by its practices you don't like. Just like it's easier to hate a smoker if they characterize you all as inconsiderate, uncaring nuisances.

I disagree with the whole fate thing. Smoking damages your organs, and it also accelerates aging. Aging is the oxidation of your DNA, and cigarettes are loaded with oxidants.

I don't really go out of my way to bash smokers or anything. However the irony is that many people that complain are obese or drink. Obesity can be just as bad, and I may not have to deal with second hand smoke, but I have to pay more for healthcare. I'll have to get some bloated employer plan, or government program that will eat up my money.

I think the worst offense is when someone blows smoke my direction. I was at a casino this weekend and a lady sat next to me and blew smoke MY WAY. I flipped out on her. I didn't tell her she couldn't smoke but I told her if she blows her smoke in my face one more time I was going to put out her cigarette on her forehead... (I never would actually do that and am not really a rageoholic but I was losing and she sent me over the edge)...

Needless to say she got up and left in a hurry (even though she had that attitude like tough sh!t buddy)...

I'm glad there are some considerate smokers out there.

Yeah, that type of behavior irritates me as well. If i'm around non-smokers I get at least 50 feet away from them. And even at that distance I blow the smoke the other direction and pay close attention to the wind to make sure it won't blow towards them. I'm very alert of my smoking around non-smokers and i'm very embarrassed by it. I made the wrong choice years ago and i'm slowly working myself into quitting. But i'm not an idiot just made a bad decision.
