the m1 cert is hard enough at the DMV (in ca) so most ppl will fail and would probably take the MSF course..

well at a minimum they'd just need a permit (here in CA) so that they can ride during the daytime with no passengers. I see lots of guys doing that (taking the written test and passing it) to get their permit. I doubt they'd actually go through with the MSF course or the actual DMV riding test.

Oh great... another excuse for another freakin markup on bikes... oh well... let the problem fix itself... squids on liter bikes...

hmm... the name Darwin comes to mind

edit (after watching the trailer):

wow, sportbikes riding on the dirt doing jumps... riiiiiiiight... and racing in a straight line, not to mention racing on that one dirt straightaway... sure thing dude. The least they could've done is taken it to the canyons and shown some kneedragging I also saw a few 'busas... hrmm I'm surprised that hayabusarider hasn't posted in here yet

another thing... remember after watching The Fast & the Furious, all the riceboys in the parking lot started peeling out and stuff? I'd like to sit in the parking lot of my local theater with a video camera watching stunters mess up their bikes That would make for quite a show.

edit:

yet another thing... yay my helmet's in the movie In the scene where it looks like a legit drag racing track, the guy in the black/yellow leathers with the bike that looks like it has its rear view mirrors duct-taped on, is wearing a titanium grey Arai RX7, I think

anycase my thought of it.. let them crash.. that way I can buy a nice salvaged race bike for cheap..

sure we are going to have more bikers on teh road, I doubt if my insurance will increase.. after all the GS500 isnt going to be in teh movie.. other bikes will be..
It sucks for ppl like us for the insurance bit, but hey we are careful riders.. its those squids im worried about.. but then I dont care on the other end.. I willl buy a cheap bike after some squid wrecks it.

Dude, you really need to quit worrying about your stupid insurance. You don't even own a sportbike; I doubt your insurance is very high to begin with.

mine may not be a true sports bike in your terms, but according to the industry it is catergorized as sport / street.. its definately not a standard and definately not a cruiser.. teh riding position is like a sports bike.. may not be that crouched though..

i think i pay enough 600/yr full coverage.. but still i would hate to pay more.. actually it did go up (i tried to see if it went up its not 800/yr for full coverage).

Hmmm. To my knowledge, Dreamworks has never produced a bad movie. This movie looks stupid. That'd be kind of sad if Dreamworks broke their streak on this.

Holy crap you're getting screwed dude. I have a '98 TL1000R (full bodywork), am 23, male, single, have 2 speeding tickets and one not-at-fault accident (still shows on my record) and I pay ~$900 a year for full coverage, 50/100/50 coverage, $250 deductibles.

If I can remember of the place I signed up with, I'll let you know. The insurance company is Mendota; they're out of Minnesota.

Wow, that's pretty cheap. I'm 19 and pay $450 a year for liability on a '96 Ninja 500. :frown: I got a few quotes for full coverage right around a $1000 a year - for a 500cc twin.

Yay, I remembered the link!!!

I called their number one afternoon in April and had a quote within 5-10 minutes. I signed up with a credit card and had a confirmation of coverage faxed within 10 minutes, and official paperwork from Mendota within a week. I was very impressed by the service.

For those wondering what Squids are:
From: http://www.juked.com/2002/01/bikers.asp
Squids: Captain Crotch-Rocket Sails the Testosterone Sea
Squids ride those jarringly-colored, spine-jerkingly fast racebikes, which most commonly end their time by landing in a ravine somewhere off the Mulholland Highway. Squids are even more macho than Harley riders, but they usually don't produce offspring. In that way, they resemble gay men: pretty, but in the Darwinian scheme of things, useless. The parallel extends further ? squids are also all about who's got the best equipment.

Squids are basically speed junkies, and tend to measure worth as a numerical function, be it top speed, RPM redline, speeding tickets issued yearly, months in the hospital after that unfortunate canyoning incident, or total dollars spent race-modifying a stock CBR900RR. They tend to be unmarried engineers with few social skills and a secret, desperate yearning to be taller.

There is a small subset of squids who do not have the Latest Model and do not own an alternate form of transportation. They're OK.

Good Guy.. You know I like you.. but a GS is NOT a sportbike.. It's a warmed over 1981 GS450 in a nice frame.. ALSO.. the CA M-class test is so simple it defies reason.. In Japan they have a tiered structure (250-400-750&up) that keeps novices from killing themselves and I think we could use something like that, I just want people to be smart enough to take the class themselves without the state government "forcing" them to.. It would keep them alove longer...

BillGates.. TL1000's RULE!

Everyone.. It's a MOVIE!!!.. Everyone reads too much into this crap.. Gone with the Wind it ANIT. the effect will pass within days of it getting booted from the theater.. I reallly doubt it will cause motorcyclists long term problems.. and if it does.. then it's OUR FAULT>>>!!!!!

WE have to be our own ebasadors of goodwill.. I can't tell you how many people would never think a respectable systems engineer would ride a "gasp" motorcycle.. Until you let them know that it's fun, and you don't have to be crazy..
