I have both on DVD, I'm not buying duplicates. I don't care how much better they look. You can suck it!

My copy of Braveheart is pretty worn and doesn't play very well sometimes so I might actually have to upgrade this one.

Gladiator is also one of my favorite flicks but that one might have to wait.

I'm eagerly awaiting the new Star Trek movie on blu-ray though.

I'll wait to buy them. I own them both on DVD and I'm not going to spend more than about $10-12 to upgrade. The movie studios are starting to give in to discounting the blu-ray prices, so I'm sure not going to buy blu-rays over $20 now. Star Trek will probably be the exception to that rule though.

Braveheart is a tits transfer. Gladiator looks like ass.

I'll prolly be getting them both, though, as I only had Braveheart on Laserdisk and never owned Gladiator.

They pooch screwed the Gladiator transfer? Seriously? That sucks, one because it's a great movie. And two, because I thought the DVD version is one of the sharpest looking movies on that format.

They've been on AVS forum for a while now. Prepare to be disappointed.

Those are 2 of my favorite films. Wish i had the money to get a good HD TV and a blue ray player but it will have to wait another 6 months or so. Im not one to get cheap just to have something so im going to wait and get a quality TV and most likely a PS3 to have a gaming machine with the side bonus of blue ray 2.0.

On a side note DO NOT EVER EVER EVER get the collectors edition of the movie Legend. That was one of my all time favorite movies but the directors cut took out all of the origional music and replaced it with garbage and also changed a good portion of the origional dialog and made it seem stupid. you have been warned.

I watched those movies to death on TV. 50 dollars seems a little steep at the moment, though I would love to see how they look on blue ray,

Yeah, Gladiator apparently looks worse than the DVD. They actually filtered it so much that they removed arrows and spears which show up fine in the DVD transfer, not to mention made the text titles all blocky and pixelated. They completely screwed the pooch.

Braveheart is supposedly flawless. I picked it up yesterday, but I also got Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead (which apparently were released early through Best Buy), so I ended up watching Hot Fuzz instead. Reference quality, by the way.

Many times it's a licensing/cost issue when music is replaced like that.

PS - "original"

No, it is definitely not worse than the DVD. Their mistake was they used the old DVD transfer to create the Blu-Ray instead of doing a newer and higher quality transfer, so instead they went overboard with the noise reduction and edge enhancements which resulted in the disappearing spear and arrows, which frankly you can see in the still screenshots but you'd have a real hard time noticing while watching the actual movie, but on the whole the PQ is a big improvement. Its far from the flawless transfer it should have been (especially with them deeming it this new "sapphire series" release), but its still good.

The DTS-MA track is good too, though there's less emphasis on the LFE channel which is strange, but on the whole another good step up from the DTS on the DVD.
