Speaking of stocks, my company's stock (which I invest in) could use some help.

Good luck, but don't expect immediate success. Looks like you could see some decent short term gains. Also, don't fall into the "buy and hold" trap.

btw, frpt

I was thinking about making that my first stock purchase. Doubt I will though. I'm building up an emergency stockpile before I start playing.

Someone mentioned it and I looked at it to warn him of impending doom (drop in pps). Instead of doom I saw a "high and tight flag", did my dd (wow!), and bought some shares. After the breakout added more. Sitting on a tidy 36% profit in just one month (with the overall market tanking no less)!

I hope you don't mean FRPT... ouch

New guys to stocks amuse me very much. Woah hey look how fast it's going up, BUY BUY BUY!

It's always followed by severe disappointment and occasionally bankruptcy.

Enjoy yourself while you can, it won't be long before you realize that in the world of probabilities all is not what it seems. Given the vast stock options, it's inevitable there will be some that appear to be on a continuous upwards climb... but what's this... as soon as you buy it starts sinking like a rock... like WOAH dude, what the hell happened?

Consider this, if you flip a coin and it somehow lands on tails the first 5 times; the probability that it will be tails the 6th time is no higher than on the first flip. Buying stock on an upward climb without any other basis to your purchase, you're making the irrational assumption that the coin will hit tails once again simply because it has in the past.

Try not to let my sense of reality ruin your fun.

Hell no.

What he said.

They'll go up in the fall though, after they freefall when the next earnings report comes out (intel will be selling P4s at a LOSS then). After that conroe and more importantly woodcrest will get them back into the game.

AMD is also going to do well I think, but not until after the end of this year (they have literally nothing to counter woodcrest, but are still uncannily gaining enormous marketshare (Dell), becuase they actually have a better mutlicore platform with Hypertransport. In dual CPU servers though they're going to get beat handily by Conroe.

Once their next generation of server CPUs hit, and dell starts selling Quad Opteron servers by the truckload AMD will be rolling in money, but like I said for now they're no good either, outside of the long term outlook.

I invested in them thinking they'd stay around 30+ for the interim period, but I was obviously wrong and bailed out when I was down only a couple hundred dollars. Win some, lose some.

As a 6 year rookie of the stock market, adhere to this advice from Warren Buffet:

"Be fearful when they are greedy, be greedy when they are fearful."

Er, I thought most people bought stocks after the run up and once they begin their decline. They want in cheaper and "hope" it goes back up, which it rarely does, then they sit on losses until they go bankrupt.

Best advice is to cut your losses early. For me it's 5-8% now, but I used to hold onto losses like most people. Average up ftw, average down ftl.

Perhaps, but he's buying FSII on the rise. Judging by what other people's rationality is for doing so, he's betting on the fact that it's gonna continue going up solely because it has been going up for the last short while.

I didn't buy it cause it was ascending, I bought it because the dips in price weren't backed by heavy volume, whereas the increases were, the MACD on this one is gorgeous too...the fast line has put a huge gap over the slow signal, and the fast line's got an insane slope on it, plus they showed up on one of my complex screeners on Ameritrade
