why are these criminal hackers being treated as heroes?

Probably because this deceptive site (and many like it) are just a cash grab from horny dumb guys who fell for the scam of typical fake female profile dating sites.

The hackers are probably just trying to bring attention to the scam.

Besides, since when is scamming scam artists not lulz worthy?

This is like keeping Nigerian phishing scam artists on the proverbial fishing line for as long as possible to waste their time, or even better, scamming them to send you money (I think I read that somewhere but not sure).

you got a beef with someobody take them to court. that is why we have laws. but apparently since AM did nothing criminal wrong nor did its members these assholes took it upon themselves to break the law and use blackmail strong arm tactics (shut down or we do X)to get them to close shop.

hope they find these criminals and lock them up for a long time.

How long have you been a member of the site?

they also kept users' data even after taking money to remove the data

This is probably what washes away any sympathy I had for the company. There is a word for taking money in exchange for a service you fail to provide.

I share the same sentiment. If we took every action literally, and enforced everything from the letter of the law -- we all would be divorced, unemployed, or illegal immigrants.

Welcome to 2015. Due to the corruption of our political system we don't trust our laws nor our lawmakers because they accept bribes from "citizens" (aka companies) in the form of donations. We don't trust the police nor the judicial system, because the more expensive your lawyer is the more you can get away with and the color of your skin changes how you are treated. We don't trust the bureaucracy because they demand to spy on us up to and including illegal hacking. We don't even trust the privacy of our friends and family, because you shouldn't have anything to hide. There is no higher authority anymore, and there hasn't been since our fragile mental bubbles were popped on 9/11.

Ever since then we have embraced the vigilante as the sole means to deliver justice to those who use power to insulate themselves from justice, whether metaphorically in popular comic book movies or in reality via people like Edward Snowden, Assange or whoever we feel is fighting the fight we want to see. TV Shows like Mr. Robot glorify the hacker, and equivocate them to be a digitized Batman.

In 2015 it is the age of the vigilante, and we can't get enough of it even when it is unwarranted or illegal. Your father's society is dead, from head to toe.

Because for once, they are dealing a blow for those that the courts can't help. Of course AM is not doing anything wrong, they are just enabling the morally corrupt, and of course there's no help for the victims here, the families of these customers. So why are we cheering? Because AM is doing what every father/brother/family-member wanted to do and could not - reach up and punch the responsible person on the nose.

I in turn hope these hackers are never caught. And if they are, I'll be ready to contribute to their legal defense.

Your name is fitting for your attitude towards people. Thank god a person with as little intellect as me that could just barely remember to know how to breath can look up your history of shit talking and post trolling in the last few days. Not sure what you got going on personally in your life -- but I am surely not getting paid enough to figure that fucking catastrophe out.

I was trying to simply state, you can judge someone for joining a site like Ashely Madison just for having a screen name on it. The site is a cesspool and it's irony is that it is a adultery site -- I get it.

why are these criminal hackers being treated as heroes?

Because we live in a hyper-voyeuristic society where we believe that everyone's private affairs, by right, should be an open book. Well, except for our own private affairs of course. People tend to sing a different tune when their dirty laundry gets aired for all to see.

Adultery is certainly immoral but it's not illegal. It's not like these hackers are blowing the lid off some huge government scandal. You're talking about regular people. Their actions behind closed doors have no bearing on society as a whole. Therefore we have no right to that information. Now that it's out there though, it could have long lasting consequences for those involved. The internet never forgets. So a mistake today could cost someone a job years down the road, even if they're cleaned up their act. Not to mention the fact that the innocent SO now has to deal with the embarrassment of having their partner's affair aired to the world. As comedian Jim Norton has said, you can't possibly be against NSA spying while at the same time gobbling up ill gotten gossip like this.

Someone mentioned in one of the Ars articles that corporations have for too long been taking a rather cavalier attitude towards security and privacy. Despite the fact that so many have screwed themselves over by doing that. Ashley Madison especially should know better.

Personally, I'm glad this gigity wet dream of a site has had a big dick shoved up its ass. They will never recover and no one will use this site again. Bunch of damn sinners.

I heard on the news that most users had used E-mail addresses that belonged to government domains. Shit....

What is Snowden treated like a hero in some circles?

He certainly illegally accessed a system and released its information playing the moral authority card and didn't go through proper channels.

Pffffhahaha You can't be serious.

First of all, you seem to think everyone has access to the same information you do and will process that information in the same way. This is incorrect.

Secondly you seem to think that Ashley Madison's clientèle actually care. Most of them probably don't.

Thirdly you think that if they did find out, they would suddenly stop using the service. They won't. Their minds do not operate that way. Neither does yours btw. This is not an insult directed at you or anyone else just an observation that people overestimate their pre-frontal cortex's control over their actions.

Ever wonder why a long time cigarette smoker continues to smoke even after learning how bad it is for their health? I don't.

Fouthly there is a new sucker born every minute. Even if AM's current customers did flee en masse they will obtain new nob headed noobs in short order.

I'm making a prediction that if Ashley Madison shuts down it will only be because the company decided to for whatever reason. It won't be from loss of customers though. My other prediction is in the off chance they do shut it down they will just start another one with a different name.

Got the 10.41GB dmps via Torrent. Opened some files via Kali Linux 2.0 Live. Interesting data (member name/email/login,CC ) looks legit. I'll have to read more data later in the weekend. ^_^

But he sought Christ's forgiveness and asked Christ to come into his life. He's also very thankful for God's grace, mercy and redemption. And although he didn't mention it, I'm sure he thanks heaven for little girls too.
