Hey guys,
I purchased an IBM 40Gb 60GXP 6+ months ago, and since then it has been giving these clicking noises (like seeking noises, only louder) when accessing a certain section in the HD. Other than that, it was dead silent. Now, after contacting the IBM tech support they told me to return it, so I did - but before I did, I took my brother's IBM 40Gb 60GXP and mirrored it, and shoved it into my computer. Everything worked fine - BUT, it is much much more noisy than the other IBM HD I owned, especially when seeking or writing small bits of data (like when downloading from the net). I'd hate to send out another HD just because of this "feature". I'm running the drive on UDMA33 (mobo doesn't support higher) and with another old WD 10gb HD as slave (very noisy HD). Could the other drive be the source of my problems? Maybe a low Watt PSU (230W)? maybe the UDMA?
Sincerely,
maxxy
