This is even scarier than the first warning...here's an excerpt

[Excerpt]

A top Revolutionary Guards commander has warned that his forces will destroy Persian Gulf oil fields if the United States threatens Iran.

The deputy commander of the guards, Sardar Zolghadr, made the statement in an interview with an Iranian television channel, according to press reports here Saturday.

He said the oil fields in the region, which are the sources of energy for the United States, will be threatened because in the case of a U.S. attack on Iran, the country will not limit its defensive actions to within Iranian borders.

...

Ali Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, speaking to congregants at the weekly Muslim Friday prayers, said Iran would turn into a "deep quagmire" for America.

"Iranians will not roll the red carpet for the U.S. If they do come, the only red that they will see will be the blood of the aggressors," Rafsanjani said.

If they didn't have any oil to sell, they would be nothing. They will not destroy their predominant source of income...but then again, these fundamentalist nations aren't exactly rational.

Why do you keep posting statements made by Iranian officials and acting like it's the end of the world? Nothing they say should surprise anyone.

Heck, not too long ago the ayatollahs were saying that the Arab world should destroy Israel by using nuclear weapons.

Tell me that doesn't sound like a line straight from some cheesy Chuck Norris movie. Statements like this always crack me up. Why do these crazy Islamic fundamentalist leaders always make big statements like that? They sound like they have Hollywood script writers writing their statements for them.

Guys, I think the Iranian was talking about Saudi and other non-Iranian oil, not just Iranian. THat would be disastrous, but they'd be the big loser cause in the end, they'd have to pay for all that oil they destroyed and their neighbors would be peeved. Besides, Iraq tried to do the same thing in 1991 but the damage was minimal

Nothing, except that they do get paid for the oil they sell and/or jobs in their country. Since the economies of Middle Eastern countries are tied so closely together, this oil money also funds the advancement of countries that don't have so much oil--i.e. Egypt and Jordan.

Think about it--if you invested money in a corporation like Coca Cola or Microsoft, would that be bad for them?

Most leaders of the former Soviet Union will say that the main reason that their grip on power collapsed so precipitously was the fact that former President Reagan labeled the communist governement as evil, which in turn created a lot of internal dissent and unrest.

I assume

<< He said the oil fields in the region, which are the sources of energy for the United States, will be threatened because in the case of a U.S. attack on Iran, the country will not limit its defensive actions to within Iranian borders. >>

means that they would destroy oil fields that they don't own. Yeah, that would be a smart move.

Red Dawn was actually quite interesting movie . Well, it wasn't really high quality movie, but still.

For those that don't know it, it's about WW3. Soviet Union invades mainland USA together Cuba and Nicaraqua. There is fighting going on elsewhere in the world too, but it isn't really talked about in the movie.
