Ubisoft just bought the rights after it had been developed by someone else for most of its development process.

Unless you are going to avoid it due to UPlay, in which case that's different.

All they're doing is taking the funny parts of the show that you'd only want to watch, then separating and dispersing them among some generic turn based combat sequences, combat that you'd only put up with to get to the next story segment.
Also it looks like a flash game.

So, its like Final Fantasy, only funny.

Why does it feel like I've been hearing about this game for 5 years now

lol, because you have. Even one of the designers mentioned in the clip in the OP's link that they started the game over 4 years ago.

I'm not sure why this game had any hype to begin with, I mean I like South Park humor but franchised tie-in games are rarely passable.

Due to the nature of the subject matter and the fact they made it an RPG, it has potential. Too bad it's going to have Uplay attached at the hip.

As has been pointed out multiple times in this thread, its over 4 years in the making.
They arent just crapping it out for an easy buck.

It's not just a developer that has decided to get a license and make a game out of it. This was Matt and Trey (the creators of South Park) going to the devs themselves and talking about what they want. The animation style of SP and the collaboration between the devs and show creators means the game will look like an episode of SP, just one that you control. All of that points to the potential of a pretty entertaining game for SP fans.

I'm REALLY turned off by turned based combat though, so I'll be waiting for bargain bin prices despite being a big fan of SP.

Personally I am always suspicious of games that take forever to produce. I do enjoy south park and I like that it essentially acts/moves like the show. I'll give it a shot provided there is a demo

I've been waiting for this game as well, but UPlay is a game killer for me as well. I might pick it up when it hits the 2-3 dollar range in a Steam sell, but I'm not sure I want to deal with UPlay even at that price. I might just watch someone else play it on TwitchTV.

Wasn't a lot of the delay because it was originally a THQ game and they went out of business? They had to wait for someone else to come in an publish a mostly finished game.

At least that is how I remember it happening... could be wrong.

Uplay is not that bad... i got a couple games in steam that use uplay also and never had any kind of issue

of course i dont "use" uplay, i just run the game and thats it, i have no friends in uplay (as in real life but that is another story), and the achievement points to exchange for rewards is kinda cool

Yeah. The game was a few months away from being done with THQ went under. Ubisoft picked it up and has delayed it 2-3 times totaling about a year now. First delay was obvious, they just acquired it and had to look over it all. The 2nd-3rd delays were I think because they had it scheduled to come out in December, which was just freaking retarded to start with. So now we are looking at early March.

Funny how south park, the show that can create an entire episode from scratch practically the night before it airs has been working on this thing for 5 years.

Pity they didn't self publish; origin is bad uplay is unforgivable. I'm reading the thread on steam about the last uplay game and the number of issues people have with keys not being properly activated and then being voided (i.e, people activate; the system screws up but then voids the key). Naturally I don't know if all those folks are clueless or have their head the sand when they activate the key butt he complaint list for uplay is higher than origin. My self - well I have very fond memories of origin going down while playing D:AO (the last time I tried to replay the game it happened) and it took uplay more than a little effort to get it to accept farcry.
-
I understand that ubisoft and origin don't want to pay steam but their systems are so shoddy and consumer unfriendly it is a joke.
-
back to South Park I wish obsidian had purchased the publishing rights from THQ instead of UBI but they didn't so unless UBI decides to skip UPLAY I think I will pass.

Exactly...uplay works fine and is just running in the background doing nothing. It's better than having to run Origin and then log into a web browser and keep both running to play a game like Battlefield 3/4

I've played Assassin's Creed games and Rayman games and both "use uplay" but neither has any issue at all. It's so easy to input your key from steam too. There's a big button to copy the key to the clipboard. When uplay asks for it, paste it in. Done in less than 2 seconds.
