I'm about 2 hours into the game. It's surprisingly fun.
Now, I don't really watch South Park. I've caught about 5~ episodes over a decade, so I get the gist of their humor and little else. Even though I'm sure I'm missing out on tons of references, it still managed to made me laugh here and there. The game is overall fun.
It plays very similar to Japanese RPG- especially Chrono Trigger/FF. You walk around the town in fluid 2D motion (Chrono Trigger) and enter into turn-based battle mode (FF/CT) with attack/magic/heal/item commands. In order to keep you busy, during your commands you press buttons in timely manner to obtain bonus damage or block attacks (Super Mario RPG).
I only picked this up because I kept hearing the game is overall decent DESPITE being a franchise/TV series game.
Cons:
1. The action is slow as hell overall... fight encounters are really seldom and advancing story is slow too... you spend most of the time just walking from A to B, between quests. The game should have 3-4x more fighting. And I'm playing it on hard mode.
2. Map and its quest indicators are awful. How do you fvck this up? The markers (shitty gray exclamation points) blend right into the map and I literally stare at the damn thing playing waldo just to find out where I need to go. How do you mess up this SIMPLE thing which hugely affects gameplay?
The graphics are GLORIOUS- it PERFECTLY mimics the show and your character moving about looks and feels just like the TV show.
If you're nostalgic about good old JRPGs of 90s, give this a go.
