I'm going to Japan from July 7th to August 1 first but I forgot I needed a passport.

Is it at all possible for me to ENSURE (100% positive) my getting of a passport by then (usually take 60 days, no?)??

I need to make sure because I'm buying the plane ticket now and I can't waste $600 if I don't have a ticket.

!!!!!!!!!

Thanks!

60 days?? WTF?

You're fine...4-6 weeks tops or so...maybe 8 if they're slammed.

Just be sure to get proper passport photos taken. That's a common cause for rejection.

I've never been outside the country before and I didn't realize it takes that long to get a passport. Also, it's been hectic with school (finals are right now).

My parents also forgot.

6-8 weeks? that's up to 56 days....how can I be sure I'll get it in time?

how could you forget that you needed that?

Anyways have it expedited. It will cost a bit extra but that way you wont have to worry about waiting and cutting it close.

If you think making a mistake is reserved only for Americans, you're gravely mistaken.

And I didn't forget per se, it's more like I didn't know it can take up to 60 days.

When you go to the post office to have it done, tell them you want it expidited. She will take your extra money and you will get it sooner.

ah, sweet, thanks. If it says, "ordinarily within 6 weeks", does that mean I'd be totally fvcked if it takes longer? that would suck!

This question is exatly how AT is going to hell. Nobody does their own work anymore; they just come here ask, and sit on their lazy asses until someone answers it. Oh well. Good luck getting your passport on time. Have fun, and don't be frightened when you close the stall door and realize that there's no toilet

there is always some kind of emergency procedure for people who need their passeport real fast
In some cases they deliver a temporary version of the passeport

you can get it the same day if you pay the extra fee and goto the gov department that does the passport, I forgot which dept it is thou. But I think the extra fee is around $100 on top of the passport fee, if you are too cheap to pay the extra fee, you might be screwed.

i got my passport expedited when i went on a trip to thailand.

i got the form online and went to my local post office. THEY ARE ANAL! i took my picture there (mistake no. 1, it was a ripoff, go do it at kinkos or something) and they wanted the passport fee in a check and the expedite/picture fee in CASH. luckily i had the BF with me to spot me the extra cash i needed.

remember to get your ORIGINAL birth certificate. they will send it back to you. when i expedited mine it took about a week to come back to me. pretty fast.

you can also check to see what other places in your area has a passport acceptance place - the LA federal building wouldn't let me do it, since it was the closest, so i had to go find the post office with a window. they also have very strict hours about the passport acceptance. and don't wait in the post office regular line, just go up to the passport window, or you'll be waiting forever.

$85 for a non-renewed passport.
$55 for a renewed passport.
$60 additional for expediated service.
+2nd day shipping cost.

So can be from $145+shipping to $115+shipping.
