Studies show that priest child molesters are no more prevalent than they are in the general population. The difference in the amount of abuse cases were they were shielded, but the amount of molesters was no different than if you looked at your family tree.

gonna need some links for that one. I am actually curious, but I certainly tend towards B-B-B-BuuuuuuuullllllllSHIT! with such a claim.

The Pope is probably one of the few religious leaders uniquely qualified to be involved in "politics". He also happens to be a head of state (the Holy See). Separation of Church and State does not apply to the Pope.

stop it. conservatives don't understand these things. For as long as they have wanted a theocracy for the USA, conservatives have either jealously or simply ignorantly railed against the pope for exercising the kind of power that they so desperately wished was wielded against their own eternal necks.

Experts disagree on the rate of sexual abuse among the general American male population, but Allen says a conservative estimate is one in 10. Margaret Leland Smith, a researcher at the John Jay College of Criminal Justice, says her review of the numbers indicates it's closer to one in 5. But in either case, the rate of abuse by Catholic priests is not higher than these national estimates. The public also doesn't realize how "profoundly prevalent" child sexual abuse is, adds Smith. Even those numbers may be low; research suggests that only a third of abuse cases are ever reported (making it the most underreported crime). "However you slice it, it's a very common experience," Smith says.

Pretending it is a Catholic priest problem just allows others to hide in the shadows. People rationalize it by saying well they have a celibacy requirement so molesters will naturally flock to them. A lot of molesters might stay single, or maybe they will get married and lead relatively normal lives, but they take their youth group down to the basement for some naked play-time, while the wife is cooking dinner.

I've hated Catholicism my whole life because it embodies everything I hate about organized religion, but this Pope has been fucking awesome.

If he could just seriously root out all the child molesters I might even consider removing the church from my shit list.
Just like everything else, organized religions are being watered down - where even gays and transexuals are being welcomed.

Well, we now have the so-called alt-right gay man Milo openly praising Christianity and demonizing the supposed enemies of the West. Whether there's any deep meaning or substance in any of this doesn't matter. It may sound good to the right people hearing it.

http://www.breitbart.com/milo/2016/...-between-homosexuality-in-islam-christianity/

Organized religion is still all about having large masses of followers who believe the manmade BS that is spewn by them. There is no real spirituality in any of these religions. They are all fake just like the people who follow them.

If you want religion, it is not in the building. It might be in you but you have to work for it.

That's why organized religions never ask people to look inside.

Religions are based on what their followers choose to believe to begin with.

You honestly think going on a rant is going to change someones beliefs

We can't even change ourselves so how can we expect to change someone else?

So because he follows Catholic values that you warp to fit your ideology (if you're Catholic) or just don't believe , he's political lol. Funny.

This "so-called Pope" is obviously spouting fake sermons.

This pope showed long ago that he's more into politics than religion, so I don't really give a crap what he says anymore.

i guess that depends on your politics, your religion. Pope Francis sounds gospel to me.

I believe that the psychic forces of reaction formation have forever made priesthood a luminous flame for moths with pedophilic impulses, but they can sure do a better job of responding to it when it is known or suspected to happen.
I believe that people who suffer from perversions seek power, respect, and authority like a moth seeks the flame. Where better to pretend and to mask one's shame especially from oneself?

You're the one who said the Pope was wrong when he said the degradation of the earth through climate change was a sin, not me.

I have to say you've been racking up these 'I got caught in an obvious lie but can't admit it' things at a pretty rapid pace these days. It's incredibly funny.
You gotta stop getting in arguments with the most dishonest dipshit in P&N man. He's never going to admit he's wrong, even though he's wrong almost always. He's never going to admit he's lying, even though he lies more than 99% of the people you'll ever meet. He's not some idiot 0roo or insane like michal1980, he's just an asshole and a shitty person and you're not going to fix evil by arguing against it on the internet.

Haha, it's okay. I just like poking him about it. (GET IT? HAR)

This is probably a personality flaw of mine but I kind of enjoy watching people like him and DSF twist themselves into ever more complicated knots to protect their wounded pride. I know they aren't going to change, but that's not really the point.

Yeah! Damn any person who is considered by many as a moral authority to be commenting on anything relating to morals!

Meanwhile, a reality TV star is the president of the US.

He's calling him out again.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news...stand-up-to-populists/?utm_term=.6c064d728c4e

...
As Christians and all people of good will, it is for us to live and act at this moment,” he said, as reported by the Guardian. “It is a grave responsibility, since certain present realities, unless effectively dealt with, are capable of setting off processes of dehumanization which would then be hard to reverse.”

The draft was read this week at the opening of the U.S. Regional World Meeting of Popular Movements in Modesto, Calif. The pope did not reference President Trump directly, but parts of his message seemed tailor-made for this particular moment. “The direction taken beyond this historic turning point — the ways in which this worsening crisis gets resolved — will depend on people’s involvement and participation and, largely, on yourselves, the popular movements,” Francis said.

He also condemned the growth of populist and xenophobic movements, calling them a “grave danger for humanity.” And he criticized leaders who rely on “fear, insecurity, quarrels, and even people’s justified indignation, in order to shift the responsibility for all these ills on to a ‘non-neighbor.’ ”

None of these statements are particularly shocking. But what's notable is the frequency with which the pope is speaking out. Francis has become one of the world's staunchest defenders of immigrants, Muslims and liberal democracy itself.

I have a lot of respect for him. It's rare to see such a prominent religious leader with the courage of their convictions and honesty towards the positive messages of their faith.

Where are the evangelical Christian leaders of the US ? How are they supporting Trump and hatred ? Shines a light on how they use their 'faith' as a club and means to spread hate and exercise control over other people's freedoms.

The only things Catholics and Evangelistic Protestants agree on is abortion/pro life issue.

Until a pope roots out every child molester and opens up the church's vast holdings to pay damages to the victims he has no business calling out anyone on anything. No matter what Trump says or does it won't come close to approaching the atrocities committed by the Christians.

Organized religion is there to control the masses, not to spread the truth. If they were truthful, they would not be as vast as they are.

What amuses me is that many leftists I know are atheists, but suddenly they give two shits about what the pope has to say.
