NORWALK, Ohio - A state legislator surprised a high school class when the computer he was using projected a photo of a nude woman during a lecture on how a bill becomes a law.

State Rep. Matthew Barrett was giving a civics lesson Tuesday when he inserted a data memory stick into the school computer and the projected image of a topless woman appeared instead of the graphics presentation he had downloaded.

Police interviewed Barrett and school officials and seized the data memory stick and the computer to determine where the image came from, a state highway patrol spokesman said.

Barrett said there were a few snickers from the approximately 20 students in the senior government class at Norwalk High School when the image appeared. He said he immediately pulled the memory stick out of the computer.

The legislator said he finished his lecture using printouts and then met with the school's principal and technology staff, who examined the stick. He said the school's technology director determined the stick had a directory of nude images in addition to Barrett's presentation on civics lessons.

"I have no idea where these came from," the Democrat said.

Barrett said the data memory stick was a gift he received about three weeks ago from a legislative liaison from the state Library of Ohio.

Right - i'm sure he had no idea where they came from....

I don't see how party affiliation has any relevance here, unless it wasn't a topless pic of a woman but a bottomless pic of a dude. But it would be ironic if he had proposed legislation to ban porn or something.

Some of those "children" are already 18, which (depending on municipality) is the age one must reach to be legally allowed to view such images... And you only have to be 17 to go into an R rated film, many of which have naked breasts... Let's face it, by the time you were a senior in high school, is there anyone here who had not seen a naked woman?

But yeah, flimsy excuse. Isn't it fairly customary to, I don't know, doublecheck your presentation will work on the machine you're using? You'd have to be an incredibly arrogant jackass to just walk up to an unfamiliar computer and assume that everything will work like a charm. Because invariably something like this happens and you look like a royal ass (I can just imagine him diving towards the computer in slow motion to rip the memory stick out, the naked breasts looking down on him in stark condemnation).

This is so dumb, it makes me think of when my grandpa use to slip in slides of naked models he would shot when showing photos of his travels at church to nuns, priests and other church goers to be funny. The guy screwed up and was trying to be funny or put the wrong images on and it was probably an honest mistake, no harm was done. The ?kids? are seniors and probably boning around nothing they haven?t seen first hand.

This guy is pretty stupid, but the real issue is the blind faith that people have for free items.

Memory sticks with 128 MB are dirt cheap, and some businesses routinely give them away as promotions with company info or software. The possibility of someone tampering or loading them up with malicious programs is a bigger threat than some porn being accidentally stored and displayed.
