I thought that was "all y'all"

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Y'all

While "y'all" is actually a contraction of "you all," it is most commonly used as a plural form of "you." "All y'all," "all of y'all," or "alls y'all" clarifies that the entire group is meant, rather than an undefined subset thereof. Cf. "we" vs. "we all," or "they" vs. "they all."

For example

"Are y'all going to the movies?"

The thrust of this question is whether movies are in the plans of the group. The asker is not focusing on whether the whole group, or just some of them, are going.

"Are all y'all going to the movies?"

Here, the person asking specifically wants to know whether the whole group is going.

God, I love the internet. ^_^

srsly, nowhere else in the world does it exactly right, because in ohio there is no accent. its basically only like this in ohio (ok and maybe parts of bordering states). we follow all the official rules of pronunciation per websters dictionary. nobody can make fun of our accent, because theres nothing to make fun of. and arab princes and tv and radio voice personalities come here to learn english dialect because its done correctly!

if someone says "yall" i stop listenining. likewise if they "pahk their cahh" or tell me "aboot" something.

follow the rules please. it's not that hard.
OK, I'm in CA and I used to think I had the perfect "no accent" accent. I've met a lot of people from Ohio, yes, I don't feel their accent is particularly noticeable. However, I was told that everybody has an accent, no exception. I believe it. If you think that any one person or group or region doesn't you are deceiving yourself.

FAIL every place on earth has an accent. You only think you don't have an accept because you are from that location. Hay I don't think I have a Canadian accept but I've been told I use "eh", I'm certainly not conscious of it but I guess it's true. Now it IS the case that many countries come to have a "default" accept, the one that you hear the most on news and TV broadcasts. Maybe this is what you mean by no accent. It's still an accent though, it's just the accept that has come to represent your nation of part of the country. I'd say for the US though this would be the North West, eg Seattle.

Exhibit A.

Meh, "y'all" serves a purpose. English needs a second-person plural pronoun...

Except y'all is never used as second-person plural. It's either:

Most places
singular: you
plural: you

Weird places
singular: y'all
plural: all y'all

WTF are you talking about, most of ohio has southern/hick accent aside from the 3 main cities.

I lived in Columbus, I didn't understand wtf my neighbor was saying half the time. Pretty much anyone from the rural 99% of ohio.

It has one: you.

Thou is the second person singular pronoun.

I am aware of this, but people tend to look at you funny when you refer to them as 'thou'... :hmm:

So, if we're retasking 'you', we might as well fill its spot.

you pronoun \ˈyü, yə also yē\

Definition of YOU

1
: the one or ones being addressed —used as the pronoun of the second person singular or plural in any grammatical relation except that of a possessive <you may sit in that chair> <you are my friends> <can I pour you a cup of tea> —used formerly only as a plural pronoun of the second person in the dative or accusative case as direct or indirect object of a verb or as object of a preposition — compare

So that covers the "most places" bit. Not really sure about the y'all/all y'all bit, but I learned english growing up

no offense but its a pretty ignorant and illogical post.

Everyone knows that accent is all relative. one person or country's normal speaking non-accent, is another person or country's accent, and vice versa. Not to mention, ohio has their own US accent (Ie: obviously in the US there's sub-accents like southern, bostonian, new york, etc).

If you had said nowhere else in the USA does it exactly right, because in ohio there is the ideal US accent, that would have made more sense, but then it may change intended effect of your topic.

I was mostly referring to this part (Not the weird part. I'm from there/here; I know it's abnormal  ) :

Weird places
singular: y'all
plural: all y'all

It should be:

singular: you
plural: y'all

We already had this conversation in this thread(jack).

the PNW definitely has the "least accent" of anywhere in the US that I've been
I had to go to acronymfinder to find out wtf you were talking about. Pacific Northwest, it seems. I don't sense the difference from major cities in CA, personally.

How do you Ohioans pronounce "srsly"? I doubt you pronounce it correctly considering that isn't a word.

Accent or not, Ohioans are the worst people ever at left lane discipline. I want to fire bomb every single one of them who think it's their right to cross the entire Pennsylvania Turnpike camped out in the left lane. PA drivers generally follow the drive right/pass left law. Ohioans do not. For this they shall be shunned.

A fair number of northeast Ohioans have an accent, particularly around the Cleveland and Akron areas. Its somewhat similar to what you'd consider the stereotypical "Chicago" or midwest/great lakes accent, and most usually from people of Hunky/eastern European heritage.
Example: I'm going down to Eyahkrin to get some sossigch; you kean't win friends with sealad...

Oh, we also call the tree lawn the devil strip.

The areas on the eastern edge of the state (Mahoning and Trumbull County area) have a bit of the Pittsburgh accent. Example: Mom = muowm. You'll also hear words like "yins" and "red up the house" too.

Columbus really has no discernable accent. I've heard that newscasters who do have accents often work there to try to develop as neutral an accent as possible. No idea if there's any truth to that.

The southern and middle-of-nowhere areas are probably similar to a West Virginia accent. This, along with Northwest and Southwest Ohio might as well be entirely different states.

I've been told I don't have any discernible accent, even though I've lived in Texas for more than a decade. Most people think I'm from the Mid-West or something.
