Seriously what a joke. USC got smashed over one player. This was a systemic situation that went on for many years and included many players and this is what they did? Surprised they didnt slap Boise State with more scholarship losses and a bowl ban for this crap.

Two years too late. They should have just suspended the players for the bowl game last year when it made the most sense. Why punish a new crop of recruits?

umm, Reggie Bush got like what a quarter mil? Pryor and company got some free tats. I don't see how OSU should have gotten a USC style penalty.

Probably works out better for Urban anyway, no pressure in his first year with the ban in place, then can come out firing in year two.

USC had Reggie Bush and OJ Mayo getting hundreds of thousands of dollars

OSU had some punk athletes get free tattoo's

not really the same thing here

Agree, though, that they should have been barred from playing in that bowl game last year, and that punishing next year's team seems a bit off - but at the end of the day, they'll be fine.

Yeah it's not the same. To me the OSU one is actually worse because it involved many athletes across generations (generation being 3-4 years) and it was known throughout the organization.

Those guys should have been banned last year and the team the next two years. This is just further proof that the NCAA is a joke and they have no basis for doling out punishment other than what they feel like that day.

USC was blind\incompetent in Bush's case. But it involved two players, players. tOSU involved many players for many years and a head coach did what he could to lie and cover it up. What tOSU did was far worse than what USC did.

This.

While USC almost certainly played dumb and knew what was going on, they did just enough to keep their hands clean. tOSU on the other hand revealed systemic issues in which they knew about the problem and did their best to keep in under wraps. I'm surprised the hammer didn't come down harder on them honestly.

Multiple years? Are we talking rumors or actual allegations? There's a pretty big difference. If we're talking rumors, might as well declare every DI program guilty of something.

And Tressel has a punishment attached to him should he ever be hired by any NCAA school.

The difference, in my eyes (OSU fan), is the amount received.
Trading their own personal gifts for tattoos is slightly different than cars and houses.

Tressel covered it up, which he probably did a lot of, but he probably didn't think it was that big of a deal.

What I want to know is how Miami got off so easy... unless the investigation continues.

Tressel's "punishment" is worthless. A Show Cause only lasts for a few years. He's bolted to the NFL now anyway. Right about the time that his name isn't so toxic and he wants to come back to the NCAA his Show Cause will be void.

The NCAA basically told someone in jail for 3 years that his driver's license is also suspended for those same 3 years. It's a worthless gesture.

I guess they figured the loss of his job and reputation was punishment enough.
I doubt he will ever coach on that high of a level, in the NCAA, again.

What did you expect or want? A total ban from ever coaching in the NCAA again? 5 year ban? 10 year ban?
He will probably stay in the NFL for life anyway.

I agree, it's worthless.

USC was blind\incompetent in Bush's case.

What case?

The entire case centers on the testimony of someone who was convicted of perjury.
The NCAA decided to believer a convicted perjure instead of the university.

There really wasn't any case.

USC got thrown under a bus because it is USC. Look at all of the other programs that have gotten off scott free, Oregon, UNC, Auburn, Ohio State, Miami, Penn State, ect.

The NCAA is a joke, top to bottom.

Meh - they should just blow off the Gator Bowl this year.

I'm not sure why it took the NCAA so long to come to a decision, but to me it makes no sense to let guys like Posey and Herron play in a bowl game this year, and guys who had nothing to do with tat-gate, get punished next year.
