I think USC and Ohio State should schedule an "exhibition game" next year sometime mid December.

What case?

The entire case centers on the testimony of someone who was convicted of perjury.
The NCAA decided to believer a convicted perjure instead of the university.

There really wasn't any case.

USC got thrown under a bus because it is USC. Look at all of the other programs that have gotten off scott free, Oregon, UNC, Auburn, Ohio State, Miami, Penn State, ect.

The NCAA is a joke, top to bottom.

You had me until you tried to group Oregon in with the bunch. Oregon has self banned it's best players three years straight now. Blount for basically an entire year (compare that to the recent Xavier-Cincinatti brawl), then Massoli got kicked off the team the following year, and this year it was Cliff Harris. Had this been any other school, I doubt the punishments would have been nearly as severe.

It's a shame that all this has gone unnoticed.

Oregon does still have the worthless game film "recruiting" scandal looming.

The loss of scholarships might be the bigger part of the penalty. No one knows if they would even earn a bowl invite next.

They lose 3 schollies per year for 3 years (I.e., 82 scholarship players instead of 85 for 3 yrs.)

Relax about Miami. The NCAA hasn't ruled on them yet. NCAA has a lot on it's plate atm.

I think Tressel's lying and covering this up makes this worse than USC and the NCAA sucks.

The NCAA is probably rolling back their punishments from what was their previous stance on punishments given the fact that they basically killed football at SMU by being so hard line. One season is about right, but I'm sure those Michigan State seniors that got gutted by Alabama in the Capital One Bowl wished it had been last year.

LOL, all you have to do is win 6 games to get a bowl invite, and they should do that pretty easily next year.

Given your avatar I assume you're an OSU alum/fan:

What offense were you guys running the past couple of years?

I.e., do you already have the personnel for Urbie's spread-type O?

I have your QB will be a good fit though, but what about the rest of the O personnel?

The bowl thing is a joke unless it means no conference or national championship. Otherwise, OSU still gets their conf payout.

Good to know, thanks.

Yes, class of '81.

Tressel ball previous 10 years. Bollman ball this year.

Yes, there will be some transition, but overall the team will be better than this year. The O-line could not get any worse .

Yes, Braxton Miller is perfect good fit for Urban renewal, and there are a bevy of running backs who will fit into the system. It remains to be seen how Urban will utilize power running backs like Carlos Hyde and Rod Smith, but I'm sure he and the OCs can figure something out

Fern, really?

"The loss of scholarships might be the bigger part of the penalty. No one knows if they would even earn a bowl invite next."

first off - OSU has the ability to choose when to 'lose' the scholarships - so they can go balls out for a couple of years, and then, when the team theoretically gets stocked with Meyer-picked talent, choose to offer 9 less in that third year.

2nd - You really think with Urban's recruiting ability - already evident, that getting to a bowl game next season would be a stretch? Chris Leak wasn't his 'guy', and he won a title with him. Braxton Miller is certainly much closer to Urban's 'type' of QB, and with the athletes they have, and can get every year, I highly doubt anyone who knows anything about college football really thinks OSU being bowl eligible next season would be a problem.

As for the people making apologies for USC - there are literally dozens of people who have testified to the vehicles Bush was driving, his living arrangements, his cash on hand, etc - do you think Carroll leaving was a coincidence?

What about Mayo - basically Bush on the basketball court?

Tressel - his actions are reprehensible by the way - (and he's the 'replay coordinator' for the Colts - let's not get all carried away with 'he's gone off to the NFL already') and the moron players involved are the guilty ones here. I'd also venture to say that Gene Smith should lose his job for the way he's handled this - but again, we are talking about, basically, jerseys for tattoo's - that's it.

Still. Don't. Get. It.

College athletics are supposed to be played by amateur athletes. Schools are supposed to attract top players with the school, the supporting athletic department, and the specific program. Nothing more. It doesn't matter whether it's memorabilia for tattoos or an extra couple hundred dollars here and there or hundreds of thousands of dollars - it's an unfair, uncompetitive recruiting advantage. Especially when it happens over many years and many recruiting classes, and the coach knows about it, and doesn't do anything about it, and even goes out of his way to cover it up. Woody didn't need to cheat to beat Michigan, but apparently a decade of getting pounded by the Wolverines made OSU desperate enough to win by any means necessary.

Then again maybe Drako will try to make the argument that OSU has a better general studies program than Michigan, and that's why Pryor went to Columbus.

OSU got off easy. The NCAA is a sham, and clearly does the minimum to discourage the 'win at any cost' mentality of goofy fans and the programs to which they give millions of dollars.

Tressel's "punishment" is worthless. A Show Cause only lasts for a few years. He's bolted to the NFL now anyway. Right about the time that his name isn't so toxic and he wants to come back to the NCAA his Show Cause will be void.

The NCAA basically told someone in jail for 3 years that his driver's license is also suspended for those same 3 years. It's a worthless gesture.
he's toxic for 5 years, by then he's 64 years old and it's unlikely he'll be the head coach at a major program again.

OTOH you're right he'll make a decent livelihood in the NFL and if he's smart enough, could probably work into an assistant coaching role.

I consider this a slap on the wrist. If USC can run an AP Top-10 program despite a 2-year postseason ban and under a mediocre head coach, OSU will be fine once Meyer gets things rolling again.

Meh - they should just blow off the Gator Bowl this year.

I'm not sure why it took the NCAA so long to come to a decision, but to me it makes no sense to let guys like Posey and Herron play in a bowl game this year, and guys who had nothing to do with tat-gate, get punished next year.

QFT - but now UF would be hosed by applying the penalty this year. Not to mention the money lost by the Gator bowl. The NCAA should have decided this months ago.
