Oil change question...

Hmm, looks like I was totally WRONG on this one LOL, anyhoo I was thinking that by draining after an overnight sit I'd get more of the old out, looks like it didn't help at all but I don't think I did anything that would degrade the oil change, even if I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed at least I keep my oil changed, you'd be surprised at the amount of people that just put gas in a car and drive it for years without so much as popping the hood to check anything at all, sad really..

I think if you drain cold, and let it completely drip out, you probably will get more oil out, since it will have had time to drain from the block. The claim is, though, it won't carry out as much debris because it will flow slower and the debris will have had time to settle out. At the end of the day, assuming you change the filter and assuming you check for fullness with the dip stick, I doubt it really matters much.

On my 2006 Subaru, the oil filter is surrounded by exhaust pipes, so I change its oil with the engine just warm so I don't burn myself on the exhaust.

LOL, yea, even an old bat like myself can learn from a mistake, I was just lucky that this turned out to be of the harmless variety..
