Oil for deep frying food?

Everyone says use peanut oil. The manual says vegetable, corn, or peanut. I've been told cheap vegetable or corn oil may smoke, whereas any kind of peanut oil won't. Anyone have any real answers rather than just speculation or things you've heard?

*EDIT* Got peanut oil... now I'm trying to figure out how to strain it... I guess a wire mesh and then coffee filter would do the job?

Does the bottle have to say it's for deep frying or just any vegetable oil?

I saw peanut oil, 3/4 gallon for $10... vegetable oil was $8 for the same amount. Was the peanut oil a REALLY good price or was the vegetable oil REALLY overpriced?

Go find the fatest pig you can find then skin that pig and take all its fat and use that....very healthy

I think a blend of canola and corn would be best. They sell something like that at the store. You get the benefits of each.

Vegetable oil is fine, it only smokes if you have your fryer set to high temp wise or when it startes to get dirty. Most of the smoke will come when it is too dirty and you have little pieces of batter or what ever burning up in the oil.

Make sure to use peanut oil, it wont flame up on you as easy as other oils. But it is VERY expensive.. But target has it on clearance for $8 for 4.5gallons right now

Askerol is efficient especially if you're using high frequency induction as a way to raise its temperature. Gives the fried potato sticks a very nice texture and flavor. It does cause cancer so you may want to think about how often you do this.

Peanut oil gives off pungent fumes when overheated so be very careful. If the basin tends to overshoot its mark when heating the fumes may become unbearable especially if you wear contact lenses. Make sure your exhaust hoods are working and if they are in recirc mode make sure your granular activated carbon contactors have a fresh charge.

Back in college every Thursday was deep fry night and we deep fried dinner and drank beer. After a few weeks we switched to peanut oil and never switched back. We usually bought the 4.5 gallon jugs at Menard's (hardware store in the midwest) for around $10. If you buy the small (< 1 gallon) bottles, it's really expensive.
