Chicken wings and potatos, and eventually egg rolls, chicken fingers, maybe some veggies. Never fish or beef.

Yeah, I think it depends on what you're frying. For poultry, I would never use anything other than peanut oil. But for fish, fries, deep fried veggies, etc. I prefer vegetable oil.

I use Canola for chicken wings. It's has a high smoke point and it's much healthier than vegetable oil.

Coconut oil is the healthiest you could use, but it may leave a coconut flavor in everything.

I'm not worried about how healthy it is, otherwise I wouldn't be deep frying... what I'm wondering about is taste and whether one will smoke or go bad sooner than another.

1 part canola and 1 part peanut. You get the taste, relatively high smoke point, and it's not too expensive.

Use a neutral tasting high burning point oil: either safflower(cheaper, I believe) or peanut. You want to taste the food, not the oil. Olive oil is probably one of the worst deep frying oils because olive oil has a distinct flavor, but also burns at a lower temperature.

I figured just pour it back into the container it came in after straining it.

Bad idea dude. You have fresh oil (0 use) and you are going to pour used oil (1-?? uses)? How do you keep track as to which oil needs to be disposed and which still has life in it? Remember, oil breaks down each time you use it, so you have to be careful to keep track of how much life it has left.

Analysis and reclamation process. Not worthy of home use.

Back into an empty container. I guess it's hard to get started if you don't use a whole container the first time. You could always use a milk or OJ jug instead (empty of course). Also, write how many times it's been used on the outside of the container.

I got a small bottle with only as much oil as needed this time cause I didn't feel like shopping around for the best price. The bottle is empty... so I'll strain it and put the strained oil back into the bottle to store for next time.

Now... what to use to strain it... deep fryer didn't come with any filters.

Peanut oil has a higher flash point than other oils, which is why it cooks hotter and fries foods faster than others. It also makes it harder to smoke, burn, and catch things onfire.

vegetable oil. like... Crisco and stuff

Does the bottle have to say it's for deep frying or just any vegetable oil?

any vegetable oil will work. we injected our turkey with cajun spices and deep fried it last thanksgiving using 2 gallons of vegetable oil from Costco. it didn't say anything about deep frying on the jug, it was just yer standard oil. delicious.
