I am convinced supply and demand is not a factor in what the current oil price is.....it's just an excuse.....

I know I'm driving about half as much myself, and my g/f rarely drives anywhere. But here in Amarillo, I don't think anyone is taking any of this seriously, or they are keeping it to themselves.

Keep the faith!

10-10-2005 Oil-rich countries tap into new political power

A financial windfall brought on by rising energy prices has emboldened several oil-rich nations to challenge U.S. foreign policy and given them more leverage with U.S. allies that rely on oil imports.

Challenges are coming from an increasingly assertive Venezuela and Iran and a Russia no longer dependent on Western handouts. "Oil is the new currency of foreign policy," says Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Richard Lugar, R-Ind. Iran and Venezuela are "not only less cooperative but almost gleeful that they are able to make trouble for us," Lugar says.

"These are huge changes that have not been comprehended by most of the U.S. public."

No true. Only the Republican Fanbois have been duped.

Tin Foil wearers such as myself have been saying this all along.

Your topic is wrong. They are using their power from oil sales as a way to mitigate some of the U.S.'s power when it comes to policy decisions in other countries.

The basic fact that we get no oil from Iran and only a little, if any, from Russia makes a big difference on how wrong your topic is.

Never say that Dave lets facts get in the way of hyperbole.

No, it is not wrong, the three Countries are working together as a bloc.

We get the majority of our Oil from the third Country you failed to mention, wonder why, Venezuela.

Conoco is being forced out of Russia after they just spent a ton of money in Russia.

I'm sure Bush will have to invade Russia to protect Conoco's "interests".

K, 2 things:

1) I didn't mention Venezuela because we do receive oil from them, otherwise I would have said we don't get it from them either.

2) We don't get a majority of oil from anywhere, not even what we produce here. (We're a bit under 50%) Our largest foreign supplier is Canada with around 20%. From there you have around 8-10% each coming from Mexico, Venezeula and Saudi Arabia. And from there, the numbers get even smaller.

So yes, you are wrong and you would know that if you read the first sentence in your link. Could Venezeula cut supplies? Sure, they could, but they won't. All we'll get is more rhetoric from Hugo griping about Dubya. But in the end, over a million barrels a day of oil will continue to flow from him.

Why is it hard for us Americans to understand ? It's called : Supply & Demand.
Why do we expect oil prices to go on a steady rate ? While every punk kid that needs to go to classes / work that I see must drive a V-10 Hemmi or a V8-Muscle car , can't we learn something from the Europeans / Japanese, look how gas effecient their cars are .
But no we must have the biggest cars , why not we are Americans right ?

Since my first car I have refused to get any car that has an engine bigger than 4 Cylinders. There is no point to it, save gas and make the economy suffer less.

I've been wanting us to invade Canada for some time. Should be much easier than Iraq. The only issue then is how to deal with the "Canadian problem"...

Oil back to the $50s
Gas here has dropped $0.35/gallon since the liberal tinfoilers claimed that Bush sent Katrina into NO to raise the profits for the oil companies.

Hasn't dropped here, holding steady around $3 gallon since Katrina.

Price gouging is acceptable of course.

So the Oil Barons are being bitch slapped because they have caused SUV's sales to slip, cool

Should be too late for the American SUV makers.

Hopefully the American Sheeple will continue to buy gas sipping vehicles instead of SUV's.

Let's see the Rich Republicans that have been blathering in here that these Compnaies have only been making 3% profit now. :|

Oh and look they are crying that their forth quarter will be hurting.

10-27-05 Exxon Mobil third-quarter profit surge almost 75 percent to $9.92 billion, the largest quarterly profit for a U.S. company ever

IRVING, Texas - Exxon Mobil Corp. had a quarter for the record books. The world's largest publicly traded oil company said Thursday high oil and natural-gas prices helped its third-quarter profit surge almost 75 percent to $9.92 billion, the largest quarterly profit for a U.S. company ever, and it was the first to ring up more than $100 billion in quarterly sales.

The hurricanes slashed Exxon Mobil's U.S. production volumes by 50,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day, down nearly 5 percent year-over-year, costing the company $45 million before taxes. The company said total daily production slipped to 2.45 million barrels of oil equivalent from 2.51 million barrels.

The company cautioned that reduced volumes and higher costs will also hurt the fourth quarter.

Dave, where are you?!?!

Probably hiding in his sofa fort.

Gas prices continue to fall, despite liberals claiming they are at an all time high and were manipulated by Republican's to make more people poor.

Now that doesn't make sense. Poor people vote democrat. hmmm... looks like yet another hole in the DNC ship they named Colander.

They didn't make a record 75% profit. They made a 10% profit. I see you can't read. Looks like your tin foil hat is covering your eyes again.

Explain how gas prices continue to fall despite the fact that you are wrong... okay, that's easy:

On the way to work today I noticed prices were lower than yesterday and lower then they have been in the prior weeks. This skill requires reading numbers, something you're clearly not good at, and making a correlation to prior day and week price history, another thing you obviously can't do.

As far as your claims, well that's simply because you are one of the uneducated masses that blindly follow what the DNC controlled liberal media tells them to believe.

Looks like Colander needs to head back out to sea for awhile.

The 75% is being shown as "profit" on CNN's Money website....though it seems like that link it getting hammered or something now.

from the link:
While Exxon's quarterly profit was up 75 percent from a year earlier, and revenue rose 32 percent to more than $100 billion, the results fell short of Wall Street forecasts due to production outages caused by the hurricanes and sharply lower profit at the company's chemicals division.
The profit was *up* 75% from the previous year - not 75% of their income was profit.
