Ok Amazon this is a little crazy but in a good way

We're now able to frequently get deliveries within a few hours any day of the week. Last Sunday I got a delivery within 6 hours of ordering. This morning my wife got her package within 3 hours. We try not to use them all the time but thats a level of convenience that is hard to ignore at times.

It is a bit nuts. We've had overnight or same day delivery for a bit now but the amount of things that qualify are just expanding rapidly - especially from when I quit Prime last year and signed up again last month.

Ordered an Fnatic/Lamzu mouse last Thursday at like 9pm, it got delivered at 8am on Friday. In time for the weekend gaming sessions. I've had a few same day deliveries and a few overnight, then a ton of next day deliveries. Where Amazon logistics has been deployed extensively, it's bonkers.

The same day or overnight deliveries often just come with a guy driving a regular sedan, probably their car, filled with boxes in the back seat and probably trunk.

Amazon Logistics' efficiency is scary but I rarely need something next day, much less same night. The rare time that I do, it's usually a trip to The Home Depot for a one-off item. 80% of my Amazon orders are S&S, so Prime and shipping time are actually irrelevant.

I live far enough out on the boonies that I rarely get anything faster than 2 days.

That's bonkers. Unless there is no Amazon logistics delivery in your area? Then they have to go through regular shipping delivery hubs.

Just ordered organic tahini and breeze wee pads for my cat's litter box now just after midnight, and it's arriving between 2-6pm same day.

This means I can make that hummus I've been craving tomorrow evening. Which is nice.

I'm always surprised how fast they can get stuff to me even though I'm pretty far from any fulfillment centre. 2 days is typical but I've seen even 1. It's probably like a 7 hour drive to the closest one.

Unless I'm on Prime (happens occasionally...) I never know how long or when Amazon shipments will arrive. USPS pretty much invariably lets me know via an advance email that an item is coming. Identifying what the item is usually takes some detective work, and I often do figure it out. Amazon, it seems, only lets me know something is coming if I go to their site, poke around my account, etc. I made an Amazon order a few weeks ago that took super long to come. I mean weeks. No way am I going to pay $150 or something a year to get faster shipping from them. I'm usually in no hurry to speak of.
