Ok, can we all agree on something here (weak rant about this cold).

Alright, I'm going to need you all to pay attention here. I've got this really bad cold. I've had the thing for like 3 weeks. I mean this is THE cold. Bad cough, sinusitis, sore throat, achy muscles, coughing up fluid from my lungs, etc. A real man cold. And I think we can all agree that a man cold is way worse than anything your kids or wife gets, but I digress.

Why is it that MY doctor makes you wait like 3 - 4 weeks for antibiotics?! It seems like everyone is worried about the super bugs and the super virus and what not. Well for that reason, physicians are making a push to hold off on prescribing antibiotics because the colds just keep adapting and getting worse. Well why the hell is everyone else able to get a freakin' Z pack after like coughing for like 3 days!! Either we're all doing it or we're all waiting here. Which is it? Some of you people need to suck it up and wait with the rest of us. Or what's the point of making *some* people wait when the rest of you bastards are just getting the good stuff right off the bat?!

So what are we doing here? I need a general consensus here. Are we all waiting for the better good of science and the good of humanity or not?

The common cold is a rhinovirus. An antibiotic will do nothing. So you're an idiot and your doctor is trying to get you to go away without having to come out and tell it to your face.

3-4 weeks? that's way too long. usually its 3-4 days, especially with worsening symptoms.

find a real doctor, get a chest xray, get some antibiotics

I got sick this summer and went to a clinic. The doctor gave me a some weaker medication saying he didn't want to prescribe antibiotics unless it was serious. Three days later and I'm feeling the sickest I have ever been in my life. I go back to the doctor and he gives me something a bit stronger. A few more days go by and I'm just getting worse.

I went to a different doctor. He gave me some sort of antibiotics and I felt 50% better in 24 hours and nearly cured in 48 hours. Antibiotics ftw.

If you're coughing up fluid from your lungs, that sure doesn't sound like a cold. Sounds more like pneumonia to me (but I'm no doctor).

Everyone should wait, but 3-4 weeks is kind of long. I'd push it that far, and beyond, but That's not typical, or necessarily desirable.

i havnt been sick like that in many a years. i used to just down half a bottle of Robo CF and be done with it.

Offtopic: am i the only one who thinks its sad that they don't have a cure for the common cold? I'm assuming its only cause cold remedies is a multi billion dollar business.
