I'm ready to drop money on either a Panasonic TH-50PHD8UK or a Samsung HL-R5688W. Now I know you are saying well they aren't the same size and yes I agree but they are what I'm looking at in the price range. The size difference isn't really a problem. What are issues are PQ and placement. I've seen the consumer version of the 8UK and it looks great but then again I also like the look of the 720P 50" Sammy pedestal DLP so I'm sure PQ is great on both the sets but I'm buying sight unseen. The main issue though is placement. Which ever set I buy is going in a room with more than a fair amount of light in the day time. On top of that I'm restricted to 1 spot for each tv but both different. See images for the whole picture:

DLP Placement

Plasma Placement

The way the building is positioned the sun rises in the wall of glass and sets on the exact opposite wall so I don't know how the light will affect daytime TV viewing. As you can tell from the pictures the light would be behind the DLP but to the left of the plasma. If anyone could tell me how this could negatively affect the picture of each I'd much appreciate it.

Thanks

I would think long term. With plasmas now burn in isn't a serious issue and they go for 80,000 + hours. DLPs need their bulbs replaced every two years at $400 a pop. Plus a plasma just looks cool. I'll be in the same boat of tv shopping in March and will have probably changed my mind again though. Good luck.

i think the plasma would like sweet in that position, where as the dlp would look kinda odd in the middle of the room.

I'm not a big fan of rear projection (too dim for my taste) and out of the two say Plasma - the one you selected is a sweet one.

I agree. A 50" HD plasma is no slouch, and the Panasonics are great. Nothing against the 56" DLP, but the plasma would look nice mounted on that wall.

I agree.

You can't beat their return policy.

They have a 50" Panny Plasma for about $3,300.
