ok I got roughly $2,000 to spend on a comp that i will build myself. Now i am looking at the PIII 700e for $215 and i hope to overclock that to 933+. Now i need suggestions on what else to buy. I need 256 ram and 19' monitor, two seperate hd perferably 15 to 20gigs each, I can get a 15gig+7200 for $101 what do you guys think? Now i want a dvd player, great video card probably geforce and probably sb live gamer. And i don't need a modem. SO i need suggestions on everything and i am looking to put together a great comp and ungradable in the future. Also what do you guys think about a duel system, don't know anything about this so all info will be appreatiacted. Like I said I want the best for the money!!!
thankx

These are some prices I was able to get for these parts. If you want, drop me an e-mail and I'll help you out. Just consider this... Onvia, coupons, and Pointclick. The net has the best deals but you may not be comfortable with it. If you are, consider the cost of S&H (though places like Onvia have no S&H) vs. the cost of no taxes (unless you are in certain states). Also consider that if you are being charged S&H, buying from one store might make sense. However, consider that one store isn't always going to have the best places.

To help you, this is a list of prices I got for the computer I'm building right now, so if you can't find similar prices keep searching.

Component | Brand/Model | Price
----------------|-------------------------------|--------
Monitor | Samsung SyncMaster 955DF | $257.90
Sound Card | SB Live! X-Gamer (CT4760) | $ 54.21
Hard Drive | Maxtor 40GB DiamondMax Plus | $224.99
RAM | Kingston 128MB DIMM PC133 (2) | $251.99
Case & PS | Antec KS282+PP303X | $ 58.53
Mouse | MS Intellimouse Explorer | $ 42.53
Keyboard | MS Natural Keyboard Pro | $ 42.42
CD-RW | Plextor PlexWriter 12/10/32A | $210.86

I think if you put even minimal effort into finding the best prices you'll have no problem meeting that $2000 limit. Good luck!

P.P.S. I hope you meant upgradable and not ungradable .

if you are going to get a dual proc system.. you have to use something that will use 2 proc's for an OS. Technically use Win2K. If you are a student, get the OS from college, its cheaper.. Otherwise will set up back by about 400 bucks for the OS.
I must warn you that DVD software is still not stable and that good as its for 98. However you can still watch DVD's on W2K.

If you don't have any preferences about the motherboard, (chipset), then:

PIII 700E FC-PGA- $215
Opt. Golden Orb - $20
ASUS CUV4X - $120
256MB PC133 SDRAM - $350
Creative Labs Annihilator Pro - $230
SoundBlaster Live! X-Gamer - $70
2 15GB 7200RPM HDs - $202
Pioneer 104S 10X DVD-ROM - $130
Samsung 900NF - $450

Total - $1787

This is assuming you have $2000 USD, and by the way, if you want to overclock to 933+ you should get a Celeron II as a cheaper alternative.

Also, this doesn't have a CD-ROM, possibly you have one? And if you don't they are about $50 for a 48X. Doesn't have a network card, pick one up for $20, and IT DOES NOT HAVE SPEAKERS. You have $213 left to spend, assuming you have both a network card and a CD-ROM, then tax on $2000 (I don't know how much, if at all), so a good choice for speakers would be the Altec Lansing ACS56s ($130) or the Cambridge Soundworks FPS2000 ($140).

The ACS56s are a 4-satellite+subwoofer, and same for the FPS2000.

So,

PIII 700E FC-PGA- $215
Opt. Golden Orb - $20
ASUS CUV4X - $120
256MB PC133 SDRAM - $350
Creative Labs Annihilator Pro - $230
SoundBlaster Live! X-Gamer - $70
Network card - $20
2 15GB 7200RPM HDs - $202
48X CD-ROM - $50
Pioneer 104S 10X DVD-ROM - $130
Samsung 900NF - $450
ACS54/FPS2000 - $130/$140

Total - $1987/$1997

Unless you are using Win2k or any other OS that takes advantage of dual Processors, I don't think you'll see much of a performance boost. Right now I don't think a dual proc is worth it unless you are a real hard core engineer or graphics designer.

Someone recommeneded a Celeron II - I'd have to disagree there - The Celeron is a good chip, but you don't seem to want an economy system. The P!!! 700 will do you much better.

If you want a budget system, go with the AMD Duron - it whacks the celeron as much or more than the celeron whacked the old k6-2

BTW, do not get a Celeron II as was suggested above. :|
Even when overclocked they can't come close to the performance of a stock P3 700 , which itself is very overclockable. A Celeron in a $2000 rig ??? Good grief !! WTF. Don't be misled by the high overclocked MHz speed of Celerons - their benchmark performance when o'clocked is comparable to a stock Coppermine @ 200-250 MHz less.

If you are going to overclock get a P3 Coppermine from the cB0 stepping in FC-PGA format @ 700 or higher for a 133 MHz system bus. Otherwise get a 667 or 733 for the 133 MHz bus. See:
http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview.cfm?catid=27&threadid=196333

Also, you don't need that much RAM normally. 128 MB should do. Specify PC133 CAS 2-2-2 SDRAM.

For a mobo consider the latest & greatest, the ASUS CUSL2. See:
