Hey Bingo13 (or anyone else who has the p4t533), is the p4t533 really that much better than the GigaByte GA-8IHXP? I mean, does the 32 bit RDRAM interface really make that much of a difference?

Chainbolt,

The new bios reduced my temps and slightly increased my memory/hard drive benchmarks. However, unlike others it reduced my overclocking capability by a couple of fsb settings. I am still testing.

Breadfan,

The Samsung R-4200 memory is overclocking very well and of course this board allow higher fsb settings than the 8IHXP. It also allows you to lock the PCI/AGP settings. I would say from a features viewpoint the 8IHXP is the winner. I have both boards and only prefer the Asus due to the performance capabilities on the fsb side. However, unlike the 533-C this board is very stable. Considering at this time you can add more memory to the 8IHXP I would say it has the advantage until the 512mb R-4200 modules ship.

So basically if one was not inclined to overclock his processor, would you say that the Gigabyte GA-8IHXP is the better board?

I go for the P4T533:
all new 850E boards will come with the 32 bit RIM4200 socket. I don't want to buy an outdated socket. Also: even if you do not overclock: the fact that the P4T3533 is overclocking better, probabaly shows that this board is more stable under stress. And if you overclock: the Samsung RIMM 4200 seems to be better than the older 16 bit sticks, and the ability to lock the PCI/AGP frequency is a god-send gift.

Bingo13: correct me, if I am wrong

I got a P4T533 with 2 x 256 RIMM 4200 sticks

Overclocking: with a P 4 2.26 "B": maximum (not stable) 3040 Mhz at 180 Mhz with memory at x 3

Bandwidth: maximum 173 Mhz in x 4 = 4300 MB/sec (Sandra)

This board is very good. Maybe you get a few Mhz more overclocking on a 845G/E board, but the bandwith is so shocking with these RIMM 4200 RAM, that DDR scores look old and very ugly.

Everybody who gets the P4T533 with the 1.02 BIOS should immeditaley change to 1.03. I got a lot of problems with the 1.02. But everything is fine with the 1.3.

Can I still use the Asus p4t533 w/ Rimm4200 setup with a 1.6a @ 400MHz bus if the 1.6a won't overclock?

I think this is possible

(a) the board has dip switch for the P4 400 Mhz frequcency settings, and anyway you can set 100 Mhz in the BIOS
(b) on the other hand: in the manual they recommend to use the new RIMM 4200 moduels with a 533Mhz CPU.

I have set the FSB to 100 Mhz, and then checked it, no problem at all. You can download the manial from Asus website.

Seeing that warning in the manual is what worried me, but it doesn't make sense to me how there could be any problem underclocking the mem. So I guess it makes sense that it would work.

as I said, my PT4533 runs happily with a P4 "B" at 100 FSB, why shouldn't a 1.6 "A" do the same?

I ment that I don't see any reason why they shouldn't be the same. Thanks for trying it out.

Hey thanx for looking.

I need professional advice, i.e. help the noob.

I can get the Asus P4T533 (i850e) with a single 32 bit rimm, but the provided memory is 3200 32 bit and not 4200 32 bit.

I've followed this board through the reviews, insane marketing approach, and onto these forums, with users reporting some worrying news about the clock gen and the need for ECC memory.

I've been wanting to upgrade since March, and even after these reports, i still think i should buy this board.

But what do you think, will it take Asus long to issue a new revision of this board ?, would you buy one considering it's 3200 memory and not ECC. I need your help. do you think i've overlooked anything ?

Thank-you in advance for all help.

Regards

I am using this board since 2 weeks now with 2x256 RIMM 4200, there is absolutely no problem, huge bandwidth (4500 MB/sec), good overlocking and you do not need any ECC RAM

I would NOT take RIMM 3200, this is corresponding to 800 MHz RAM, the RIMM 4200 stands for 1060 Mhz. The PT4533 for the P4/533Mhz and with the new RIMM 4200/32 bit moduls is the latest and best in motherboard technology. I would not degrade this by using low rated RIMM modules.

Access time:

RIMM 4200: 32 nanoseconds
RIMM 3200: 40 nanoseconds

Chainbolt - Where did you buy your P4T533? Does the memory come packaged with RIMM from Asus, or is the vendor free to include thier own brand?

2 sticks came 2gether with my 2 boards, because it was the bundled version, and I bought 2 additional sticks to have 512 on each board. But they are all identical Samsung RIMM 4200, revision 1.02 production date 02/28 and 02/29. There is a Japanese manufacturer who will soon start making RIMM 4200 modules EPIDA or something. There are reports about problems with Samsung RIMM 4200. It seem they have quite a quality fluctuation. My are ok.
