Ok. so ive found and decent case, and psu for my case.. now i really need an mobo/cpu
socket 939 and must be agp, major companies like msi, asus, gigabyte, etc.. im don't want to spend more than 70$ on the cpu, and 55$ on the motherboard.. any deal iv'e tried to get through any forum or ebay, is too expensive, or the user bails on me.. any suggestions or offers?

I was considering a 754, but i wanted 939 because its faster.. the htt for 939 says 2000, but 754 is only 1600.. big difference?

You can pick up an Athlon 64 3000+ for about $60 at NewEgg and take the difference ($10) plust the $55 you were willing to spend on the motherboard and get an Asus A8V-MX. You may end up with a few $$ left over. That is about as good as you are going to get buying new hardware.

On the other hand, you can watch the "For Sale-For Trade" forums or E-Bay. I am sure there will be people upgrading to a new Core 2 Duo system and selling their 939 setups. You may be able to pick up a used 939 CPU and motherboard within your price range.

Good Luck!

No, my 2.4 Ghz Skt. 754 3700 is faster than my X2 4400, when both are at stock speeds. The major difference between the two (not including dual channel memory, which seems to make no difference in speed), is that the 939's usually overclock a little higher, while running cooler.

but isnt the x2, more optimized for multi tasking applications and the 3700 for games?

Sorry dude, wrong.

Your 3700 is a single core CPU, clocked higher than the dually 4000, and with more cache per core. You are running single threaded apps on it so of course the 3700 will win. Your testing methodology is flawed.

The socket has absolutely nothing to do with overclocking or temperature. Overclocking ability is down to the processor itself, the power supply, the components on the motherboard, and the BIOS. Temperature depends on the size of the process with which the CPU is fabricated.

Dual channel does make a difference.

Get the Asroc (division of Asus) DualSATA mb from Newegg. Every thng you want:AGP (plus PCI-E), dual channel, plenty of features. Haven't priced it lately, but was less than $60.

i was thining about the asrock, but i have a feeling that pci-e and agp is bad because something is gonna use more bandwith then just a regular agp.. anyways.. thinking of the msi k8n neo2 series.. which seem rare as hell..

The Asroc board is one of the very few that did a full implimentation of both AGP and PCI-E (as opposed to cobbling together a brige setup), so performance of either slot uses the full potential of the card in it.

The board is stable, and has some oc ability. Everything I've ever plugged into mine has worked: Opty, Corsair value and XMS, pci ide card, X-FI platinum (onboard audio is ok), 9600xt (agp), 1600pro (pci-e), numerous optical drives, internal usb hub, etc..
