...and I'm thinking its my memory. I have a PIII800@880E, Geforce II MX @ 190/190, 30gig Maxtor 7200rpm, and 1 stick of nameless brand 8ns PC100 CAS3...now in WW II Online and Anarchy Online, both games are basically unplayable in cities or in battles due to the hard drive spinning like its going to blow up and in big battles and cities I get less than 5fps solid. Now I look at one of the recomended settings for WW II Online and it says I should have a 650m swap file which leads me to believe it sucks memory like hell. Now I'm asking should I spend $100 (Canadian) for 256m PC 133 CAS 2 RAM? Will it possibly help my FPS? Thanks.

how much ram do you have currently? you should have at the very least 128, but i would shoot for 256 total system memory.

I think its likely ur memory is hurting u, but 5 FPS, I don't know. Could bad memory do all that.

I didn't think it could.

What are the recommended system specs for WWII Online? Your CPU is plenty for any game and your GF2 MX should be good (make sure you have latest drivers). The only think I can see is the RAM but like MustPost (LOL, funny name) said, could RAM do all that?

Ok here's a snippet out of the README file

<< RAM
As with many game titles, the more RAM a system has, the faster many in-game functions may run. Adding more RAM to a system with 256mb or less, will pay off in huge performance dividends for WWIOL. There is a lot of texture and model loading that goes on prior to entering the game world(s) in WWIIOL. More RAM will only speed things up on that front.

How are you playing Anarchy-online? You in the beta?
Good choice on getting more RAM. Your computer was running out during the game and accessing swap file memory on your harddrive which is deathly slow so thats why it sounded like it was going to blow up.

you got the 256 chip right?.. 384 should be enough...

but then again..... you can NEVER have TOO much RAM

Actually if you have too much then the system can't cache it anymore or something, and can result in slow downs, depending on the OS too...

When I play counter strike in 32 bit color with all the goddies on, it uses 160 megs of ram. if your physical ram is < ram needed, you are gonna be in swapfile land, which will KILl you.

You can definatly have too much ram for games.
currently for games at above 512, maybe even at you will see slowdown, if ur just running one game and nothing else.
On win9x it won't recognise more than a certain amount 768 or 1024 im not sure if it crashes or just doesn't use all the RAM.

I cancelled the RAM, instead getting in local for $40 cheaper Canadian and buying a Geforce 2 Pro...
