OK, is it "bad" not to believe in fate and mysticism in modern society?

Seems most people these days believe everything is fated.

Kind of some people think that Obama was fated to be President, or Lewis Hamilton is amongst the fated to be an F1 driver.

Meh, people can think as they please it's a free world. But then I see no evidence for fate, and me we're all human, existing on this Earth.

So, if somebody doesn't endorse some Tibetan belief, are they a "bad person"?

If they can tell me what numbers are fated to win the next lotto, I'm on board.

It is human to find an explanation for everything. Sometimes, you should just let things be and not worry. Your mind is trying to grasp and make sense of what happens around you. But you only have limited senses and you can only be at one place at a time. Thus, a smart mind will always have the feeling something is missing or that something is not right. An itch. If you have such a state of mind, that is why you should just let things be and not worry. Just accept it. There is happening more around you then you can keep track of. The brain is an amazing machine trying to fill in the gaps.

You just now noticed the human brain defect of over-think?

When fate and politics combine, this is by far the worst cocktail ever.

As ever, what's bad depends on the company you're in. If you're around people that believe in magic, it's probably expected to believe in fate.

Personally, I think fate/free will is a bit simplistic. I'm a materialist, I believe there's nothing that exists that is supernatural. So, it can be said that each human is just a very complex chemical reaction, and with a sufficient understanding of science and the human in question you can predict what any given human will do. Well, yes, but that's an incredible oversimplification, and hinges completely on a "sufficient" understanding. It may not ever be possible for us to have a complete enough understanding of a given person (see: Heisenberg), and even if that is possible the computational requirements for an accurate prediction may be impossibly high since you have to factor in both the human and their environment, of which the simulator is likely a part.

When asked, I say I don't believe in fate, because there is no known higher power that guides any part of our lives; it rains on the just and the unjust, and shit happens no matter who you are. But, absolute free will is an absolute fallacy, we are as much products of our environment as our actions are products of ourselves. If you don't think so, go get a job in the worst circumstances you can imagine. Find someplace where the work is meaningless, your boss is exploitative, the workers hate their lives, and the mission of the business goes against your values, but choose to be happy the entire time. Do that for a month or two, and ask yourself if you're happy.

And is as is? Anyway, I'm sure many people believe fate is real, at least to some extent. But there are a lot of people that would deny it too, either because they reject mysticism on principle or because they think that they make their own destiny.

I'm high? haha.. only losers do drugs.

But then, yeah this is why society says to take up meditation and pray.

So yeah, seemingly others expressing opinions/standpoints offends you, I can sense it.

Do you drink? Alcohol is a drug too, you know...

Fate is like a doorway. Sometimes you get the choice of walking trough it other times you get thrown trough it

Ludacris was on "when I was 17" and I was pretty fascinated. He was a total nobody. He would sneak backstage by feigning confidence, like he belonged there. Just give a head nod to the security guard and walk on by like he knew what he was doing. He was always trying to get backstage and meet the bands at concerts. His motto was "fake it till ya make it" eventually he made it, so it was cool.
