Agreed. I have had a system go up in smoke and sparks while i was at home. I never leave a system going while I am gone anymore.

Kinda expensive but an idea nonetheless:

Upgrade a few of those 8800GT/9800GT/9800GTX cards to GTX 260s (or even GTX295s). Considerably higher ppd each so you could run fewer cards for the same points, while saving power at the same time.

You have a step-up opportunity with any of them? I know I'm in the middle of a step-up from 9800GTX+ to a second GTX 260/216. Then I'm waiting until GT300 to replace my old 8800GTS (G92). I'm a gamer primarily so I always want to have a fast GPU (or three) - which might as well be put to good use folding.

And one final thing - have you ever done the math to see which is more efficient from a ppd/watt POV - CPU or GPU folding? Consolidate down to the fewest number of very powerful GPUs in the fewest boxes and run like that. I know with GTX 260 I average 7k ppd, so two of those in a box would be 14k + the ppd from the CPU (how much for an i7?). If you could hit 20k in one box - run three boxes and you match your current output.

Build a house underground........ move up in elevation or build a concrete bunker?

This is real where I live..... yet I still crunch for the cause.:frown:

If you can afford to build a farm....you can afford a way to keep it cool. Install solar panels that drive cooling fans.....build a network of PVC tubing underground and transfer the heat....

Its within your power. If you believe... you can do.

OK, so I have 12 computers running 700 watt PSU,s all at full capcacity, or 70 amps@120 volts. So I am supposed to

1) build all water cooling blocks for 50 devices and route them all outside to one radiator
2) upgrade my AC to 5000 btu,
3) upgrade my electric service from 120 amp to 200 amp to do all of this

Just so I can do more than 60,000 ppd for anandtech ? Even I am not that rich, or that stupid, sorry. If you guys expect more than that, maybe I should just fold for another team....

Nice to see so many can identify with my situation, and understand.... NOT

Sorry again.

Jez Mark chill out mate, they were joking after all (notice the wink & the grin?).
I think the heat was getting to ya , enjoy the cooler temps with fewer rigs on , if it helps, my HD 4830 is crunching 24/7 again .

Btw believe it or not I understand your heat dilema even though I'm in England, my PC's in my bedroom & we don't have AC here (it's rare to have AC in houses here), so if it gets much over 25C I have to downclock my rig (although now I could just run say 2 of 4 cores &/or kill GPU clients), if it get's over 30C (rare fortunately) I have to shut it off. Bearing in mind my quad is responsible for 80-90% of my DC output, it hurts!
