heh
i also heard a lot of "good" things about it.
i'm afraid i have fallen victim to the marketing machine ie:gamespot, ign, etc, etc.
and i also think it sucks real bad.
to this day i have yet to run into FPS games that would equal quake 2, original tribes and original unreal.
q2, could actually support 2-3 times the players who were all playing on 56k (or at least 75% or so at the time, some were still on 28.8), per map then the q3 arena or t2 for that matter. my favorite used to be Loki CTF, which had often up to 64 players on the decent servers. now they seemed to have focused too much on bells & whistles and eyecandy and reduced the games playability way too much. not to mention the weapons are less original, weapon effects all look the same just different size and color dissipating light fog type of thing, and most important of all there are no grapples. lets face it, those spacwe jumping things of q3 suck a big co*k in comparison with the grapples from q2. there is nothing else in any game that came close.
tribes was good also, i think the original tribes was a lot more strategic and tactical with the way you could deploy turrets and whatnot then its sequel. also, in t2 for some reason i really hate the movement, they made it way too easy to kinda "float off" as best as i can describe it which makes the game too much of a drag to play when you're in the mood for heavy or light armor.
unreal vs unreal tournament and unreal 2, well the 1st is the obvious winner. in UT i really dont like movement, it feels slow and i cant jump high enough and also weapons arent as good as the original.
in unreal 2 things really suck, weapons are even less original and for some reason seem to pack less umph! in em. on top of that movement that feels sluggish again, i dont know what is it with the devs slowing down movement rates and toning down jump height, i mean i'm this freagin super dude outfitted in an even more super suit, and i run at regular humans walk speed and jump shin high (dont even make it to knee height). wtf kinda crap is that ?
then you throw in the gameplay, or rather lack thereof. the scinematic cutscenes are really horrible, the AI is ok, monsters could again be more original as the weapons
anyways i do wholeheartedly agree that unreal 2 sucks.
