WWYBYWB?

On a side note had anyone heard of USB support before XP? Most of us had not and that's just one of the many things that XP paved the way for.

if it wasn't for the fact that a quick google search gives the definition of the acronym, the fact that you were able to respond ably to an apparently unique to AT acronym would be a giveaway of RBM status :hmm:

You're right a quick google search did revealed the results. As for wtf the rest of your post means I have no idea.
As for some of you stating that Win95 and 98 had USB support. Well you're right. Now show me how effectively they utilized it.

i'm using that on my win7 computer.

hey MS - i've gotten used to how your interface works over the last 15 years, and i'm getting old and crotchety. if i wanted to change i'd get a mac. why do i have to hack my windows to make it work like windows has for the last 15 years?

yea while they made somethings better, the changes were sometimes baffling.

no free space indicator? directory trees don't expand themselves by default?

its like they decided to annoy just to annoy.

also sad after all these years it still takes ultramon to make multi monitor usable.

I felt the same way about IE & Office 2007. Why the heck did they have to make the navigation and undo /redo buttons so small? In the past they were big and easy to click on, then they made them so small you had to purposely aim for them.

Annoying just to be annoying. :\

I kind of empathize, because if all they made were changed under the hood, people would be saying "this looks exactly the same, why should I upgrade?"

but at the same time, I wish GUI designers would take 10 seconds to implement an "I'm old and cranky, give me the old skin back" button.

There was a Microsoft patch for it, I think you had to have Win95B or C to use it though. 3d was there via third party, GLide baby! So awesome for the time, and better than early Direct3d for sure. Also opengl

After using Win 7 for a while, it's easy to see why some people who don't even have compatibility issues would switch back to XP...because their farking idiots.

aye. my first thought as well.

though, to be fair, many of those proven to be RBMs almost always respond with "what does that mean?"

feigned ignorance and all.

windows 95 had to install drivers to include USB support, but windows 98 and 98SE included it by default.

I had a USB scanner that worked like a charm in Windows 95 OSR2. USB really didn't take off until Apple forced the issue with the iMac.

Hell... Windows 95 even had Direct3D support until DirectX version 5 or 6, and the latest versions of Media Player and Internet Explorer worked with it until Windows 2000 came out.

I don't recall Apple having a whole lot of anything to do with USB nor were iMacs really popular enough to have any influence on the overall PC market. The only thing Apple did was finally give up ADB, it had very little to do with the eventual full adoption of USB.

7 > Vista > XP.

XP is an outdated POS. Only people who think they are good with technology and think they are being geeky still use it, or people so ignorant and stubborn they don't want to change, or businesses.

Or people who use industrial software (like me) that will absolutely not run on anything above XP (some of it won't run above SP2 of XP) and will not be updated ever. We have no choice.

Same reason that we keep laptops around with hardware RS-232 ports (because USB ports suck ass with older industrial software).

People who think "VISTA SUX" and "WINDOWS 7 IS GUD" are retarded. They're the same fucking thing besides some minor interface changes.

I do have Windows 7 (get it for free from my school). I do not think it's worth paying more than $10 to upgrade over Vista from.

Both are miles better than XP.

The RTM version of Vista, with the drivers and hardware available at launch, was pretty crappy, bordering on unusable. The biggest issues for me were the slow file transfers and the OS running out of address space. Also PCs at the time just didn't have enough RAM.

Vista SP1 on a decent machine from 2007 or later was very good. Win7 is slightly more streamlined, but most of the improvements that people associate with Win7 were actually brought by Vista service packs and improved driver support, as well as PCs generally getting more powerful between 2006 and 2009.
