Ok, so I'm a tech n00b chick :( :( and a little worried, advice plz r/o

so i'm a tech n00b girl, i don't know anything about computer parts and such. i speak CSS and xhtml and some php but NADA about hardware, firmware, and laptop battery parts, etc....

situation:

brand new ASUS 1215 netbook (12-inch screen). Before the battery could 'drain' for first usage, the battery was inserted and laptop was powered on, then the computer was immediately hooked up to the electric power cord (i guess these are called AC's? lol... like i said, i'm a total n00b).

The battery is supposed to drain, or fully charge before first usage, so how does this really impact the netbook now?

okay... so some more personal detail.

the clumsy doofus who did this is ME and the lap top belongs to a friend--- the friend was quite devastated after they found out I did this... I felt so awful because I thought it really would impact battery life?

Then why would people advise to drain a battery or fully charge it before first usage?

With older batteries it was more important but not with modern ones.

A lot of advice has become obsolete, like having to fully drain a NiCd battery before recharging ("memory effect"). Newer battery technology is a lot more noob-friendly.

Just charge a battery to full the first time you plug it in, no need to discharge it fully, that's actually generally bad for modern batteries.
